Weekly Message for 8.23.19

General Announcements

To support families at home to help with what your children are learning in school, we have included a list of Homework Resources by grade level.  The link to this resource can be found on our school website, Click on Parents then Homework Resources.  Once you are there you will find resources for Mathematics Homework Resources for Grades 6-8, Math 1 and Math 2.

Parents please consider sharing your career and career journey on the morning of September 27th for our Career Day.  Exposing students to a variety of careers and occupations helps students make connections between school and work and the careers they can have after school.  Please share your journey and broaden our students’ horizons.

More information and registration can be found here. Please contact our CDC, Wendy Gressett at or by calling the main office at 919.664.5737 with any questions.

As our 2019-20 recruitment season approaches, we would like to add to our Moore Square Magnet Middle School website a place for prospective families to read about some of the wonderful things our parents and students have to say about our school. We invite you to share a positive testimonial by clicking the appropriate link below and complete the Google form. If you have shared a testimonial previously, you are welcome to submit again. If you have an area of concern, this is not the platform. PLEASE contact us so we can work to address it!

We would like a brief description--just a few sentences targeting a specific area of which you have been especially pleased. Examples could include a particular department, activity, or event, but you are not limited to these topics! We ask that you do not use specific names of teachers and/or staff in your testimonial.

The number of responses we receive will help determine whether we publish your testimonial on our website, but many positive testimonials will definitely speak volumes to our interested families.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback!

8th graders: Do you like helping others solve problems and resolve their conflicts? If so, being a Peer Mediator may just be for you. Eighth graders who become peer mediators get trained in peaceful conflict resolution. You can get an application from the counselors or click on the link. Applications are due on Monday, August 26th.

A note from the school social worker - Please remember that absences add up quickly! Missing just two days per month is considered being chronically absent. Attendance letters are sent home after 6 unexcused absences. If you have any questions regarding attendance policy or questions about your student's attendance please contact your school social worker, Ashley Davis, at Attendance law and policy information can be found here:

Through Thursday, we’ve raised just $5,930 towards our $20,000 goal.  That’s just 30% of what we need to fund all the Cultural Arts Programs, Teacher Grants, Teacher Appreciation, Student Recognition, and More we have planned for this school year.

Parents, this is it.  This is the one and only fundraiser the PTSA puts on each year, so we need your generous donations now!  This week!  Don’t wait one more day!

There are 3 ways to donate:

Reason #425 to donate to the Annual Fund:

Donations over $5 (online or by check) will qualify the donor to be entered to win one of four $25 Amazon Gift Cards.

That’s FOUR $25 gift cards up for grabs just for donating!  Reason #425 – see what we did there?

Each family that donates $5 or more by check or using the online payment options by August 30th will be entered (one entry per family).

Though you’ll only get one entry for the drawing, you can donate as many times as you’d like!

The last week of the Annual Fund Drive means a COIN DRIVE!  Send in all your spare change with your student each day next week.  There will be collection bins in the lobby each morning (collections from 7-7:25 only each day).  The GRADE that collects the most by the end of the week will win a Grade-Wide DONUT PARTY!
