Weekly Message for 7.26.19

Hello, Moore Square families! We send weekly communication through text and email as well as post the messages on our school website. If you are only seeing this message on the website, please contact the school to update our records.

Our first two days of the year were fantastic. Teachers worked with the students to develop classroom culture, expectations and routines. We asked the students how their days were going and what classes they were liking most. We heard responses like “it’s been amazing”, “I can’t pick a favorite class” and “I love all of my teachers.” We look forward to this full week of classes.

We ask all parents to be patient as the flow of carpool gets smoother. As a reminder, carpoolers and walkers are dismissed at 2:18pm. We recognize the long carpool line last week, but we do need parents to keep intersections and the school driveway clear and to be mindful of busses and walkers. To allow the bus system can run smoothly, busses need to be able to leave school by 2:25pm. Please do not block busses in on Martin Street. Carpool typically ends by 2:35/2:40pm. To avoid the longest part of the line, consider delaying your arrival to carpool until 2:25pm. We do have a crossing guard at Person and Martin Streets who will manage students walking towards City Market however, we have students who walk in multiple directions. Please be on the lookout for students crossing the street. Parents of walkers, remind your student to cross at intersections, looking both ways. Safety is our top priority!

All parents are encouraged to register as a volunteer. It only takes a few minutes at school and registration is required for parents to attend field trips and volunteer in classrooms, the media center and the office. Before too long, teachers will be asking for support to deliver the robust programs that Moore Square has for students. As a reminder, volunteer registration must be done each year and you can connect your name to more than one school. So, the next time you are at school, ask Ms. Scott at the front office about registering.

Attention 7th Grade Parents:

North Carolina law requires that all 7th grade students must have the Tdap and Meningococcal immunizations within the first 30 days of the school year.  Your child can receive these immunizations at their regular doctor or at your local Wake County Human Services location.  Please bring a printed record to the school as proof that your student received these vaccinations.  If you have any questions, please call the school.

Moore Square is seeking new mentors for students this year. The mentoring program connects adults with students to support not just academic development but navigating the challenges of early adolescence and social/emotional learning. Mentors meet with mentees on a weekly or every other week basis for 30-45 minutes during the school day. If interested in mentoring a Moore Square student, please contact Marla Mondora at 919.664.5737 or No experience is necessary.

Mrs. Harrington is in the process of creating Parent Portal Accounts for Homebase/PowerSchool for parents who have submitted the request. She will email you your username and password once the account is created and this task should be finished in the next two weeks. If you have not yet requested access, ask Ms. Scott for the Parent Portal Request form the next time you are at school. Please be patient as she will also be completing student headcounts to submit to the county and the state.

Auditions for the fall musical, Footloose, are right around the corner! Students interested in joining the cast and crew should check out the details linked here.

We will host our Open House on Thursday, August 8th, at 6pm. This is a great opportunity to meet your student’s teachers and learn what to expect this year.

Fall pictures will be taken on Tuesday, August 13th. All students will have their pictures taken as they will appear in the yearbook. Order information will go home on Monday. Volunteers will be needed to support the picture taking process. More information on volunteering will be on the website this week.
