Weekly Message for 5.10.19

On behalf of the teachers, we would like to thank all of you for the wonderful teacher appreciation week! Teachers certainly enjoyed the donuts, coffee, cookies, popcorn, drinks, flowers, notes and the cookout. Our families truly are the best in the county.

 

Monday begins our end of year testing. The schedule for testing is below. Please be certain your students get a good night’s rest, have something to eat in the morning and get to school on time. They have worked hard all year and are prepared.

We are still accepting donations of snacks, drinks and AAA batteries. The snacks and drinks will be given after testing and the batteries are needed for the calculators. Donations can be dropped off at the front office. Just let Ms. Scott know they are for testing.

 

All library books and fines are due on Friday, May 17th. Ms. Skinner has been emailing students who have overdue books and fines. Check under the bed and in all the nooks and crannies of the bedrooms for books.

 

Congratulations to the Band, Chorus and Orchestra programs. The concerts this week were fantastic! Our students have so much talent and Ms. Clayton, Mr. Miller and Mr. Bryd have done a wonderful job helping them develop their gifts.

 

Yearbook Sales and Distribution Information:

 

We sold out online of the 275 yearbooks ordered for this year. Those 275 yearbooks will be distributed at lunch on 5/22

 

There were 15 more ordered because some have slight damages to them. Those damaged books will be sold as follows:

The damaged books will be sold at our lowest offered price of $35+ tax /total: $37.54 on THURSDAY AM (The damage is not that bad- just some rough cover corners)

 

There may be a few extra undamaged ones available as well. If so, those will be sold on Friday, after the 8th grade promotion ceremony festivities, for the regular price of

$45 + tax /total: $48.26

From Student Services:

6th and 7th grade students who missed registration should see Mrs. Estes or Mr. Wray to complete their registration. Students can also go through PowerSchool to select electives or make changes.

A “STEAMY” Summer Is On Its Way!!

You don’t want to miss Summer at the WELL! Our summer camps will cater to rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students. The overall theme for each week will be STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Students will visit various STEM related businesses to see how they integrate science, math, literacy, and engineering skills within their day to day work while solving real-world problems. Curious about robotics? Get hands on experience building and programming robots. Calling all creatives!! Come unleash your creative beast with creative writing, music, spoken word, and improv. Love math? Love food? We are tying these two great things together for a fun-filled weekly workshop!

The City of Raleigh offers a free after school program--Teen Outreach Program (TOPs)--for ages 12-18. TOPs runs at 10 community centers across Raleigh. Click on the link for more information. 

 

Camp Braveheart Bereavement Camp is now accepting applications for its 2019 camp. This camp is for ages 6-16. Click on the link for more information.

 

NC State is offering a Study Skill Summer Camp in July and August for grades 6th-8th. They will also have a session for rising 9th graders as well. The focus of the camp is on organizational skills, learning/memory strategies and test taking skills. If you want more information you can contact Mrs. Estes or contact the program at 919-515-1713 or at theclinic@ncsu.edu.

 

From the Arts:

The Arts Boosters will hold a general meeting on Wednesday, May 15th from 6-7pm. All parents interesting in joining the boosters are welcome. Arts Boosters supports all performing and visual arts programs.

For 6th Graders:

The End of Year Awards Assembly and Field Day are on Thursday, May 23rd.  The awards assembly begins at 10:30.

 

For 7th Graders:

The End of Year Awards Assembly, National Junior Honor Society Induction and Field Day are on Thursday, May 23rd. The awards assembly begins at 8:00. NJHS inductions begin at 9:15.

 

For 8th Graders:

The Red Carpet Dance was a huge success! Students (and some teachers) danced and laughed the night away. We are certain the night will be a memory the students carry with them forever.

You still have time to check out the 8th grade exhibit at Raleigh City Museum.  The installation will be open through June, so you have time to stop by the museum and see our students’ stories.

Summer Driver Education class registration begins April 1st and goes through April 12th. Students must be 14 ½ years old on the first day of class. You can pick up a registration form from the box on Mrs. Estes' door. Students should either scan/email the forms to the Lead Teacher of their first-choice school or drop the form off at a local public high school during the registration period.
