Weekly Message for 4.5.19

Happy spring (it has finally sprung)!

We want to give a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Hunter and the Odyssey of the Mind teams who competed in the State Competition. One team finished 2nd and has qualified for the OM World Competition in Michigan in May. Congratulations again and good luck at Worlds!

Students had a busy week this week. Ms. Kicklighter took a group of students to the North Carolina FCCLA conference for three days of powerful learning. The 7th grade engaged with members of the SAS Education team and learned to code and collaborate. The 7th grade also continued their study trips to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Ms. Craig held auditions for Drama Productions and Studio Theatre classes. Mr. Byrd and Mr. Miller led a group of musicians to the NC Symphony for a concert. Our 8th grade students finished the installation of their social studies project at the Coty of Raleigh Museum in time for Friday’s opening. The installation will be open through June so you have time to stop by the museum and see our students’ stories.

Mark your calendars for the EOG/EOC/NCFE’s. We will administer end of year tests beginning Monday, May 13th and un through the end of the year. As your planning appointments, please protect the last two weeks of the school year and plan for your student to be in school every day.

Ms. Johnson is seeking guest speakers for her elective class. If you have a varied cultural background and would be willing to come and be a guest speaker for her 3rd Period Elective, Passages to Other Cultures, she would be most grateful!  Class is from 9:18 - 10:08.  She is looking for 6-7 guest speakers to come in throughout this quarter.  If you are interested, please contact Ms. Johnson at:

From Student Services:

A “STEAMY” Summer Is On Its Way!!

You don’t want to miss Summer at the WELL! Our summer camps will cater to rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students. The overall theme for each week will be STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Students will visit various STEM related businesses to see how they integrate science, math, literacy, and engineering skills within their day to day work while solving real-world problems. Curious about robotics? Get hands on experience building and programming robots. Calling all creatives!! Come unleash your creative beast with creative writing, music, spoken word, and improv. Love math? Love food? We are tying these two great things together for a fun-filled weekly workshop!
