Weekly Message for 11.9.18

Happy Weekend! As a reminder, we, along with all Wake County Public Schools, are closed on Monday as we observe Veteran’s Day.

All students were able to spend time with time on Friday with veterans and current members of our Armed Forces as we commemorate Veteran’s Day. Students learned what called people to serve, what life is like in the military, and the lessons learned about war and peace. We are grateful to Mr. Anderson for coordinating the day and are forever thankful to the men and women who have and are serving our country.

Second Quarter Progress Reports:

As you know, Moore Square has gone green and reducing our use of paper for interim reports. If you have not yet logged on to Home Base/Parent Portal to review your student’s grades, please do so as we are have headed into the 2nd half of the quarter. If you are unable to access the site, contact your student’s teachers and ask for a paper copy of the interim report.

If you have questions about accessing or navigating your account, please contact the school. We will have the parent request forms available at the front desk. Additionally, our office staff will walk you through logging in if you need help.

Attention Carpool Parents:

This is a friendly reminder that the parking lot on the corner of Davie and Bloodworth Streets is owned by Smith Temple and is a pay lot during the week. While it is tempting to park in the lot to wait for dismissal, we ask that you do not. Community members who pay to park in the lot have reported that they are unable to access the lot as our families are using it as a pick-up location.

Attention 7th & 8th Grade Student Athletes:

Basketball tryouts for the Ligon/Moore Square team begin on Tuesday. You must have all necessary documents filled out, including a current physical. Please see Mr. Scheck early on Tuesday if you have any questions.

Attention 7th Grade Parents and Students:

Ms. Williams, Mrs. Richardson and Mr. Leslie are reminding students that in ELA this quarter students have had and will have homework nightly.  They should be reading the assigned chapters in the book, Lyddie, and should be completing the reader's notes and vocabulary for those chapters.  Doing the homework is necessary because they will need this to complete the classwork the following day.

Attention 8th Graders:

8th graders and their families are invited to Broughton High School's Magnet Open House on Wednesday November 14 from 5:30 - 7:30. There will be guided tours, opportunities to meet students and faculty and presentations in the auditorium at 5:30, 6:00, and 6:30.

Calling all proud 8th grade parents: 8th grade recognition ads are on sale now through December 15th. You can design and purchase a yearbook ad to celebrate your 8th grader by going online at Jostens.com. See the school website for a direct link to the design your own ad page.

Payments can be made online, in cash, or in a check payable to Moore Square Middle School. We are also looking for parent chaperones to join us. Cost is the same for chaperones.
