The lights have been shining bright on Moore Square!  

 

Arts News: Our Theatre Department presents Once on this Island, Jr. October 26th at 6:30 pm and October 27th at 2 pm & 6:30 pm. Admission: $5 Adults, $2 Students, Free for Children Under 3.

 

Through almost non-stop song and dance, this full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest that will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and even death."

Choral Ensemble students will perform at First Friday next Friday November 2nd, 4:00 - 5:30.

 

Please remind your student to wear nice jeans and their choral T-shirt.  

 

All Choral Ensemble students have now been fitted for their formal choral attire.  The girls will be bringing their dresses home for hemming in the next week.  Please make sure they are tailored with dress black closed in toe shoes - either flats, wedges or chunky lower heels.  Shoes should be comfortable as we will be walking to the Capitol for our December 6th performance.

 

The Lions Club “Kindness Matters” Poster Contest Entries are due Wednesday, October 31. 

 

Mr. Kreacic will host Art Club for all students during their lunch classes on October 31, November 7th and November 28th. After school art Club will be November 15th from 2:15-4pm.

 

Continue your Moore Square First Friday on November 2nd with a visit to the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) where our students will be docents from 6-8pm. 

 

Congratulations are in order! Saturday, October 20th, our Studio Theatre class took 6 selections to the first NC Jr. Thespian Festival in Greensboro, NC to compete in 5 different Individual Event categories. Not only did 3 of these selections received Superior scores, which is the highest possible score, and the Critic’s Choice from the judges, but they qualified to compete at the national Thespian Festival in Nebraska in 2019! Congratulations to Kelley Calvillo, Nicholas O’Kon, Keetyn Weeks, Gabby Bretz, Henry Carroll, Holly Smith and Alicia Osborne.

 

Seven students from Ms. Clayton’s chorus program have been selected to participae in the WCPSS All County Chorus Concert on February 16th at Carnage Middle School. Congratulations to Isis Jarman, Charlotte Moore, Alicia Osborne, Boden Levesque, Madison Tarbell, Devin Stone, and Danny Cobb.

 

PTSA Annual Giving Drive: First Friday will mark the end of our Annual Fund Campaign. Dr. Jordan, Mr. Dail, Ms. DePinto, Ms. Mondora and Mr. Squires will put on a short concert from the roof to celebrate our wonderful community.

First Friday: Moore Square will host our Fall First Friday on Friday, November 2nd, from 4-5:30 pm. The event is a great way to launch your Raleigh First Friday! The afternoon will be full of performance, displays and student work. Also, if the PTSA reaching their annual Giving Goal, the administrative team will be providing a short concert from the roof!

 

Veteran’s Day: Are you a Veteran or Active Duty member? If so, please consider helping Moore Square celebrate Veteran’s Day by visiting a classroom to share your experiences. This is a great opportunity to help students understand the sacrifice members of the military make as well as the impact on community. PBIS News: In order to help reinforce our ROAR Expectations, PBIS will select target behaviors to focus on for a week. For the week of October 29th-November 2nd, the focus will be on Owning Your Actions. So make sure you to work on responsibility and accountability. 

 

Attention 8th Graders:

Calling all proud 8th grade parents: 8th grade recognition ads are on sale now through December 15th. You can design and purchase a yearbook ad to celebrate your 8th grader by going online at Jostens.com. See the school website for a direct link to the design your own ad page.

 

Ms. Sweeny’s Social Studies classes will go the Raleigh City Museum on Friday, November 2nd.

 

The Washington, DC trip is April 17-18, 2019. Payments are now being accepted. Cost is $250 and can be paid in full or in 4 installments. The first installment ($80) MUST be paid by November 28. Payments can be made online, in cash, or in a check payable to Moore Square Middle School. We are also looking for parent chaperones to join us. Cost is the same for chaperones. If you have questions, contact Ms. Layton or Ms. Henderson.

 

Vernon Malone College and Career Academy will be here on Wednesday, October 31st during 1st period. They have programs in Biopharmaceutical Technology, Collision Repair, Cosmetology, Multi-Trades Technology, Nurse Aide, Simulation and Game Development and Welding.  If you are interested in attending, see Mrs. Estes to sign-up.

 

The early college application process has started. Students need 3 recommendations (Math, ELA, and Administrator or Counselor) plus they will have to write an essay. Here is more information about applying to an Early College.

The Magnet Fair is Saturday, November 3rd from 9 am-12 pm at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. There you will be able to learn about the magnet high schools as well as the early colleges. 

 

Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School has left us with some complimentary tickets for their theater program. If you are interested in SRMHS for theater, this is a great opportunity to see what SRMHS Theater is about. The ticket can be redeemed at will call for one free student ticket to any of the 2018-2019 theater productions at SRMHS. See Mrs. Estes if you are interested and would like a ticket.

Calling all creative Moore Square Students:  How do you see “Heroes Around Me”?  The annual PTA Reflections Art Contest is now underway.  Entries will be accepted in six different categories:  visual arts, literature, photography, dance choreography, music composition and film productionSubmissions will be accepted through Monday, October 29th.   A completed entry form must accompany each submission. Please bring your submission and entry form to Ms. Hardy’s office (Rm #1123) by the end of the school day, October 29th.  Rules and entry forms were distributed earlier this week.  (NOTE:  If you did not submit a Reflections interest form, it’s not too late to participate!) The Moore Square winners will move on to the Wake County Competition.  All participants will be celebrated at Moore Square’s First Friday event next week.  We want to see your creative approach to this year’s theme “Heroes Around Me”!
