Principal's Message (4/18/21)
Rising Senior Night
Attention Junior Students and Families—mark your calendars for May 6th at 6:30pm - Student Services is hosting a Virtual Rising Senior Night! Join us from home to learn your summer to do list, senior year timeline and information about post-secondary options. We can't wait to "see" you there!
Counselor Conferences
Counselors now have their calendars open now for current freshman and sophomore conferences starting this week. You can make an appointment with your assigned counselor by going to the Student Services page found on the GLHS website under the Students tab. Students should click on their counselor's name to be taken to their YouCanBook.Me appointment calendar. During this conference, counselors will review course selections for the 2021-2022 school year (last call for any changes!) and more. Families can join virtually too.
Preparation for AP Exams
If your student is taking an AP exam next month, please make sure they do these three (3) things TODAY to be ready for their AP exams:
- Verify that they are registered for the AP exam. To do this, they will log into their CollegeBoard account and click AP Classroom. Upon doing this, they should see the confirmation of their exam date(s)/time(s) at the top.
- Mark your calendars (the date AND time) and plan accordingly (click here for AP exam schedule). This year's exams are all digital and taken from home except for AP Spanish which is only offered in paper/pencil format and will be administered on campus.
- Download the AP Digital Exam App and practice using this tool. Students MUST do this ASAP! For more information from CollegeBoard on exam format and how to prepared for your exam(s), go to the following link: https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/digital-ap-exams/four-steps-before-test
Special Note about Chromebooks: Personal Chromebooks are NOT compatible with the AP Digital Exam App, and school-issued Chromebooks have an extra step to function properly. Please email Ms. Roberts today (hroberts3@wcpss.net) if you fit one of these two categories so we can help with technology concerns.
From the PTSA
As a part of this week's Mondays Made Easy, be sure to visit PDQ on Winston Hill Drive for the latest Gator Bite Spirit Night. As a reminder, as long as you mention GLHS while you order, 20% of sales come back to GLHS. For more information on upcoming Gator Bite Nights, please see the PTSA's website.
From the Gator Club (Athletic Boosters)
Our Gator Club has launched a Legacy Brick fundraiser. It allows any member of our school community to create a custom brick to be installed on campus this summer. For additional details about the Legacy Brick program go to glgatorclub.org. The deadline for ordering is April 30th.
Upcoming Career Conversation on Global Health
Students who are interested in learning more about careers in global health are invited to a career conversation on Tuesday, April 20. Students should sign up in AllTimely. This week's guest speaker will be Yadurshini Raveendran, who recently graduated from Duke University with a Master of Science in Global Health. Yadu's research interests are primarily embedded in addressing health disparities in resource-constrained settings, with interests in pediatric oncology, global nutrition, infectious disease, implementation science, and digital health. Currently, she works as a Clinical Trials Associate involved in COVID-19 drug and vaccine trials at FHI Clinical Inc.
Service Opportunities
Gator Service Club is hosting a clothing drive for Note in the Pocket from April 19th to April 30th! Note in the Pocket is a local nonprofit organization that provides quality clothing to impoverished children in Wake County. They are collecting new and gently used clothing in the bins located outside of the front doors of the school.
Colorguard Auditions & Percussionist Recruitment
Audition information for the 2021-22 Colorguard season is now available. The colorguard is the visual component of the marching band. No experience is required to join, but dance experience is a plus! Click here to see the flyer with more information. The colorguard pre-registration form can be accessed at the following link: http://bit.ly/greenlevelguard
Guard auditions are May 3, 5, 10, and 12 (6-8pm) and are all at GLHS. Students are expected to attend all four dates. Students with conflicts (or students not comfortable attending in person) should contact Mr. Myers directly for an alternate audition.
We are also looking for students with piano or music experience to join the percussion section of the marching band. Email bmyers@wcpss.net for more info!
