Fine Arts Market Extravaganza
Come join the GLHS community to celebrate the fine arts at the upcoming Market Extravaganza on November 15 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to shop for the holidays, mingle in a coffee house setting and participate in a Silent Auction of donated artwork. Throughout the evening, students will also showcase their musical, visual arts and dance talents.
Traffic and Carpool Updates
- Within the next 1-2 years, the “Ellsworth” development will upgrade the intersection of Roberts Road and Green Level Church Road by adding the fourth leg to the intersection and upgrade the signal including crosswalks on the west and north side. In the meantime, please be careful crossing the road; especially at dusk.
- In the afternoon, please be courteous (refrain from yelling, honking and cutting off others) if you are using the second line to zipper into the main lane. To prevent any injuries, we would like to remind everyone to only enter cars when you are in one lane. The lane closest to the tennis courts is reserved for special transportation. Remember, you are the role model for your kids and other kids.
GLHS Service Projects
Green Gator Service Club (Now through November 21)
The Green Gator Service Club has partnered up with Urban Ministries to host a Fall Food Drive. Part of the Urban Ministries' mission is to connect with the community to fight poverty by offering food to neighbors in need. Green Level staff and students strive to be a part of that community. Please support this worthy cause by sending in canned goods and non-perishable food.
PB&J Fundraiser (Now through November 26)
The GLHS Key Club is collecting plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly for Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) and local food banks. Please turn in donated items to rooms 1119 (Ms. Reid)and 2151 (Ms. McDaniel)
Clothing Drive (Now through November 26)
In preparation for the upcoming winter months, the Green Level Marching Band will be sponsoring a clothing drive from November 12-26. Collections of clothing items will go to homeless shelters around our community and to students who financially cannot obtain warm clothes. We welcome donations of any new or gently used clothing articles. Please drop the clothing into bins in the front of the school and in front of the library on the second floor through November 26. These bins will be cleared out every Friday. We are hoping that with your donations we will be able to give warm clothes to those who need it.
Book Drive for the Holidays (December 2 to 16)
The Green Gator Service Club is partnering with the Book Harvest in Durham to raise a collection of donated books that will provide free books to children in need. We will have book bins set up in the front lobby of the school in December.
Driver’s License Reminder
To maintain a safe and secure school, we ask all parents and/or visitors entering the building to scan their driver's license. I understand that it is inconvenient to go to your car if you forgot your license; but, staff members in the front office are simply following my directions.

Signs of Suicide Curriculum
In WCPSS, we have a suicide prevention program called Signs of Suicide in all of our middle and high schools. The SOS program has proven to be successful at increasing help-seeking by students concerned about themselves or a friend. It is the only school-based suicide prevention program listed by SAMHSA for its National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices that addresses suicide risk and depression while reducing suicide attempts. If you have questions or concerns about this program, please contact Emily Simpson, SAP Counselor, at emsimpson@wcpss.net. Student Services will teach the Signs of Suicide curriculum in the Healthful Living class the week of November 18. A letter will be provided to all students enrolled in a first semester Healthful Living class. If you wish for your child to opt-out of this program, please read and return the signed letter.
