The Parkside Semi-monthly 2/10/19

Greetings Parkside Families!  This is your proud principal, Teresa Caswell, writing with a few updates, reminders, and upcoming events.  The excitement is increasing as we draw near to the 2019-20 school year; I have enjoyed meeting many of you and your students and am so thrilled to be a Sandpiper!

Updates:

Building site Construction continues and the recent dry, warm, weather is definitely helping get the building to a “dry-in” state where additional interior work can happen regardless of daylight.  I have met and worked with the exterior site managers/designers and we are going to have a gorgeous site that complements the surrounding Breckenridge community.  I cannot wait to see the foliage and other natural elements in the different season’s glory.  Beautiful.

Walk Zone – at parent meetings I mentioned that bus stops are placed 0.3 miles from student’s houses.  I mistakenly believed that this was also the school’s walk zone distance.  In actuality, a walk zone can be up to 1.5 miles from the school.  At this time Parkside does not have a residence further than ~0.9 miles from the school entrance and I am working with transportation on ensuring that the final walk and bus zones are safe.  This includes investigating the options for crossing guards and completing a “walk audit” in the coming weeks with Transportation.  The walk zone at this point has not been finalized and bus routes are still to be determined.  I will keep you updated as we move forward.

Building: Our building is looking beautiful and I have been meeting with facilities on furniture and materials/supplies.  We will have a wonderful science lab – something that is pretty unique in Wake County elementary schools!  We will also have several collaborative spaces near classrooms that will support the work of Project Approach.  We are going to have an amazing year of Empowerment through Innovation!

Reminders:

If you have not yet, Please fill out this track preference form – Once the county transfer process has completed mid-March, the track placement process will begin.  Track assignments will be communicated by mid-April. Thank you!
