6/3/19 Parent Message
Band/Athletics Meeting!: Join Mr. Kuni, our Band Director and Mr. Weidenburner, our Athletic Director Monday, June 10 at 6:30pm in the Panther Creek High School Auditorium. Mr. Kuni and Mr. Weidenburner have teamed up at ARMS to provide parents and future students with information regarding both the Band and the Athletic Department. Mr. Kuni will begin the presentation at 6:30 and has allotted time for rising 6th grade students to join him in the band room for specific information and instrument fitting. Please review the flyers below regarding the Band & Athletic Information Session:
PTSA Spirit Night!: The ARMS PTSA will host our first Spirit Night this Wednesday June 5th at Brixx in Parkside Commons. Please view this flyer with more information on how this evening will help benefit the PTSA and our community: Brixx in Parkside Commons. Print out the flyer and just give to your server! Additionally, some ARMS staff members will be present at Brixx between 5-8pm to meet & mingle with our community. Be sure to come out, eat great pizza, and say hello to support our PTSA!
PTSA Committee Interest: The PTSA is requesting anyone interested in serving on the various committees to please complete the following form: ARMS PTSA Committees Interest Form. Communication will occur as committees are being built. PTSA is seeking parents volunteers for the following committees:
- Audit Committee (3 needed in August for first audit)
- Advocacy Committee
- Nominating Committee
- Reflections
- Spirit Wear
- Communications
- Teacher Appreciation
- Membership
PTSA Supply Kits: The PTSA has partnered with SchoolKids Supply Kits for families to purchase some general school supplies. This is another great fundraiser effort by our PTSA. Please visit www.shopttkits.com and access ARMS Account Code #79520. Please note that supplies won’t be delivered until July 21st (we have already communicated with staff with staff about this too). Additionally, specific teams may be providing additional supplies needed once school starts. Please let the PTSA know if you have any questions!
Transportation Update: If you log into your child's Powerschool/Home Base account, you will be able to see whether or not your child is already registered to receive transportation services for the 2019-2020 school year. If you can see this information and will be living at the same address, you do not need to take any action at this time. If your child is new to the district and you have already completed the enrollment paperwork, you probably have completed the transportation request document as well and do not need to take any action at this time.
- Who Needs to Take Action?
- Parents of students that will be riding the bus for the first time this year.
- Students that will be living at a different address from the current one.
- Families that need joint custody stops - these requests will be accepted at any point, but the alternate stops will not be created until the first week in August.
- If you are unsure about any of the above information, it won’t hurt to submit a transportation request online just to be sure that your child’s transportation needs will be met this year.
Transportation requests can be completed online at https://www.wcpss.net/busrider and need to be completed no later than Monday, June 10th in order to guarantee that your children receive transportation on the first day of school.
Specific Bus Route information will be finalized and posted online on June 21st. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out us. The Transportation Operations Manager for our area will also be at our Open House on July 8th to answer any questions that we may not be able to answer.
Staffing Update: Be sure to check-out our school Twitter feed (@AlstonRidgeMS) each day for announcements of our dynamic staff. Additionally, each Friday on Instagram (@alstonridgems) we are recapping the week with pictures of our new staff & their baseball cards. We are getting a lot of positive feedback by sharing staff baseball cards through social media to introduce staff members to the community so be sure to follow along!
Attendance Notification: If you are currently assigned to Alston Ridge Middle School for the 2019-20 school year and you know you won’t be attending (moving, transfer, home school, private school, etc) PLEASE communicate your intentions with us. It is important that we have accurate numbers to ensure enrollment and balanced tracks. Please contact the school by emailing the following address: alstonridgems@wcpss.net. Thank you for helping keep our numbers accurate!
