Asynchronous Day Expectations & Schedule

Asynchronous learning days support teachers and students by providing dedicated time for them to engage successfully in their work. SRMHS will implement two asynchronous days on Wednesday, October 14, and Wednesday, October 21. Beginning October 26, WCPSS will operate district-wide asynchronous learning days aligned to all school calendars. WCPSS asynchronous learning days are scheduled for:

  • October 14, 2020
  • October 21, 2020
  • November 18, 2020
  • December 2, 2020
  • December 16, 2020
  • January 6, 2021
  • January 13, 2021

Student Attendance

Because asynchronous days are instructional days, attendance will be taken at intervals consistent with synchronous learning days. For SRMHS, teachers will take attendance for all four periods. Students can be marked present through the following means: attending brief check-in (see schedule below), submitting a daily assignment, or two-way communication with the teacher (email, etc.). Students that do not engage in one of these methods will be marked absent. Designated A and B days will remain the same with the inclusion of asynchronous days. Students with year-long classes in their schedule will have attendance taken for classes on the assigned day.

Meeting with Teachers

Student support sessions (synchronous meetings) and office hours are not required for staff or students on asynchronous days. While not mandatory, teachers may use this opportunity to reinforce previous concepts and support student understanding. New material will not be covered on asynchronous days.  Student support sessions will adhere to the schedule below to prevent overlap. Student may reach out to their teachers to schedule individual meetings throughout the day as schedules allow. Students will not be required to attend meetings with teachers on asynchronous days.

Student Assignments

Students will be given asynchronous assignments consistent with other days. The assignments will not attempt to make up for the lack of live instruction. Subject areas may decide to issue summative assessments consistent with those issued on synchronous instructional days. Students that miss assessments must follow the make-up policy outlined in their teacher’s syllabus. Tasks assigned on asynchronous days cannot be assigned a late work penalty. Designated A and B days will remain the same with the inclusion of asynchronous days. Students with year-long classes in their schedule may be assigned asynchronous work for classes on the assigned day.
