Dear Charger Families,

Last week was my first as Principal of Apex Friendship Middle. What an amazing five days I have had getting to know your students and the staff at AFMS! Thank you for the warm welcome I have received, and thank you for your students who have been so outgoing and willing to talk with me each day. Each week, I will share a family message with you in this format. While serving as your principal, I will continue to welcome feedback on improving future messages so that all of our families are informed of the great things happening in our school. Thank you!

Student Enrollment Proposal Information: On September 19, 2023, the first draft of a new Student Enrollment Proposal was presented to the Board of Education. WCPSS will hold a virtual information session for the Southern and Southwestern areas proposed changes Oct. 4, 6 - 7:30 p.m. For more information and to watch the presentation about this proposal, families can visit this website: https://www.wcpss.net/2024enrollmentproposal.

7th Grade Signs of Suicide Prevention Program: 7th grade students brought home a letter earlier this week regarding the Wake County Signs of Suicide Prevention Program.  The letter went home through homeroom classes.  This is a county wide program that ties to mental health and our Student Services team will be teaching all 7th graders a lesson from the curriculum in October.  Contact Ms. Lewis (7th grade counselor) if you have questions/concerns (klewis4@wcpss.net). Athletics News: Congratulations to our volleyball, girls’ soccer, and football teams on their wins last week! This week, the volleyball and girls’ soccer teams will travel to Fuquay-Varina for their games on Wednesday, 9/27. Football will play at Fuquay-Varina on Thursday, 9/28. 

Interim Reports: On Wednesday, 9/27, teachers' gradebooks will be up to date and students should bring home their interim report notification letters 

Safety Crossing Humie Olive Road: It is incredibly important for all students crossing the road to use the designated crosswalk area and stay alert. If your child walks or rides a bike to school, we encourage you to please speak with them about using the crosswalk and remaining safe on their way to campus. If students are being dropped off or picked up, please be sure to follow the AFMS carpool procedures. Thank you!
