EWHS Weekly Announcement – Week of February 10, 2020

 

Spring Open House | The Spring Open House will be on Thursday, February 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The event will be an opportunity to meet your child’s second-semester teachers and to learn about the wonderful programs we have to offer for registering for classes.  

The event will operate on the tentative schedule for our Curriculum Fair/Open House programs.

  • 6:00 – 6:50 p.m. – Rising 9th – 12th-grade Curriculum Fair (Main Gym)
  • 6:30 p.m. – Family Academy Session 1, Media Center (Parent Advocacy & Engagement in Your Child’s Education)
  • 7:15 p.m. – Family Academy Session 2, Media Center (Parent Advocacy & Engagement in Your Child’s Education)
  • 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. - Rising 9th Grade Registration Presentation, Auditorium (East Wake Student Services)
  • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. - Spring Open House for current East Wake students; Families will spend 8 minutes in each period

 

Black History Program | The East Wake High School Drama department is hosting a Black History Program on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15 at 6 p.m. nightly in the auditorium.  Please come out to support the program.

 

Bus Driver Appreciation Week | February 10 - 14 is Bus Driver Appreciation Week!  Join me in celebrating our bus drivers for the outstanding job that they do for our students each day. Please make sure you share your appreciation for getting our students from home to school safely.

 

Valentine’s Day Deliveries | The school will not accept any deliveries for students on Friday, February 14.  Items such as flowers, balloons, and gifts create a disruption of the education process when delivered or brought to school.  These items should be kept at home. 

 

Spring Sports Tryouts | Tryouts for baseball, softball, men’s golf, track, men's tennis, and women’s soccer will begin on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.  Athletics should contact the head coach directly for more information.

 

Cap & Gown Pictures | Seniors will be taking their cap & gown pictures on Wednesday, February 19.  A $10 sitting fee is required at the time the pictures are being taken. ???????

 

Warrior Club Meeting | The Warrior Club will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 12 at 6 p.m. in the Media Center.

 

Food Pantry | Did you know that our school has a Food Pantry? If you are experiencing or you know of a family that is experiencing a stressful time and needs food, the East Wake High School Food Pantry is here to help. The Interfaith Food Shuttle recently stocked our pantry with fresh fruit, vegetables, and meats for families that may be experiencing difficult times. EWHS Food Pantry is open to any family in need. New Bell Schedule | The school will follow the bell schedule below daily Monday – Thursday.  The school will operate the following bell schedule on Friday, February 14 – A Week (Monday Schedule from the first semester).  Clubs will continue to meet on Fridays just as first semester with the revolving bell schedule.

   

Scholarship Opportunity | The North Carolina Bar Association’s Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Law Section is sponsoring its Sixth Sustainability Essay Contest for all North Carolina High School students.  A flyer providing details about the contest can be found here.  The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 29, 2020. Please feel free to forward this email to any of your contacts who might be interested in the contest or who might know students who are interested.

The EENR Law Section offers financial scholarship awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

 

East Wake Alumni Scholarship to Wake Tech | Any East Wake Senior planning to attend Wake Tech should pick up a scholarship application from Student Services.  Applications are due to EWHS Student Services by Friday, April 3, 2020.

 

Wakelon Elementary Kindergarten Registration Kick-off | Wakelon Elementary will host their annual Kindergarten Registration Kick-off on February 20.  They have two sessions scheduled:  9:30 – 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

 

ECDBA High School All-District Band | Three of our students were for the Wake County All-District Band.  Join me in congratulating Jordan Sanders, Alfredo Serrano, and Chantile Gibson.

  

Club Pictures | Club pictures will be taken on Friday, February 14. Students should see their club advisor for the specific time that the club picture will be taken.

 

PTSA Officers for 2020-2021 School Year | The East Wake High School PTSA is seeking PTSA Officer nominations for the 2020-2021 school year.  All positions are available.  If you are interested or want more information, please contact Mrs. Nicole Kelly at nicoleewhsptsa@gmail.com.

 

Bus Stop Safety | As we begin a new semester, this is a good time to review bus safety and bus stop safety with your student.  Families are encouraged to have a bus stop safety plan and to talk with your student about safety at the bus stop and on the bus.  You can get some bus safety tips by review this link: NCBusSafety.org.

 

Capturing Kids’ Heart National Showcase School Nominee | East Wake was selected as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools® nominee!  We were one of only 261 of U.S. school campuses that were selected as 2019-2020 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School® Nominees.  Through the National Showcase Schools™ awards, the Flippen Group recognizes and celebrates schools that go the extra mile each day, creating the socio-emotional safety on school campuses that is conducive to learning.

Tobacco-Free Community Forum | WCPSS will host a Tobacco-Free Community Forum on Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Southeast Raleigh High School.  This is a youth-led forum for students, parents, WCPSS staff members, community advocates, and policymakers.  The information at the forum will focus on the vaping epidemic.  For more information, click on the flyer here.
