EWHS Weekly Message – Week of October 29, 2018
Report Card Pick-up & Family Engagement Event | The school will host a family engagement event on Thursday, November 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Parents will be able to pick up their child's report card at the event. Teachers will be on site to set up parent-teacher conferences if needed. A more detail outline of events will be shared in next week's message.
Winter Sports Tryouts | Winter sports tryouts will begin on Wednesday, October 31. To tryout for any team, the player must have to ticket to play if they did not participate in a Fall sport. The ticket to play can be obtained from Mr. Pridgen. Mr. Pridgen can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you need additional information about a specific sport, you should contact the coach directly.

End of the Grading Period | The end of the grading period will be on Wednesday, October 31.
Softball Interest Meeting | Any athlete interested in playing softball for the 2018-2019 season should attend the interest meeting on October 30 at 2:30 in room 170. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Jefferies.
Halloween Costumes | Students are not allowed to wear costumes to school. Any student that comes dressed inappropriately will be asked to correct their clothing or will be issued a school consequence.
Underclassmen Picture Make-up Day | Lifetouch will be at school on Tuesday, October 30 to take make-up pictures for the yearbook. The picture make-up schedule has been shared with the staff, students can ask any of their teachers for the schedule.
Resilience Screening | The EWHS PTSA will host a screening of the documentary Resilience in partnership with the Wake County PTSA. This viewing will take place on Monday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Resilience is about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the significant impact they have on students. A panel discussion will be a part of the program. This screening is for adults only, however, childcare will be provided (the child must be potty trained). Food trucks will be on site for families to purchase dinner with part of the proceeds being donated to EWHS PTSA.
Parent Volunteers Needed | Please help out and support our athletic teams by volunteering in our concession stand. The concession stand opens at 6 p.m. Upon arrival; all volunteers are invited to enjoy one food item and a drink. Thank you in advance!!! Marching Band Competition | The marching band will participate in a competition at Cary High on Saturday, November 3.
ASVAB | The ASVAB test will be administered Wednesday, November 7 at 7:30 a.m. in the Media Center. Students may sign up in Student Services, the Media Center or on Mrs. Coble's door. Please sign up in only one location.
Food Pantry | Did you know that our school has their very own Food Pantry? If you are experiencing or you know of a family that is experiencing a stressful time and needs food, the East Wake High School Food Pantry is here to help. The Interfaith Food Shuttle recently stocked our pantry with fresh fruit, vegetables, and meats for families that may be experiencing difficult times. EWHS Food Pantry is open to any family in need. Hurricane Florence – Make-up Day | Wednesday, October 31 was designated as a teacher workday and will now serve as a school day.
Honey Baked Ham Fundraiser | The EWHS PTSA is holding a fundraiser with Honey Baked Ham from September 21 – November 15. For more information, click here. Please support this fundraising effort.

Yearbook | Yearbook flyers were distributed to students this week. Yearbooks are currently $60 for students (with tax, that makes them $65). Checks can be made out to EWHS or cash should be taken to Ms. Anderson’s room 159. Yearbooks can be ordered at www.jostensyearbooks.com. We do not order extras at the end of the year, and we always sell out every year. Order yours today while the price is still low.
