EWHS Weekly Message – Week of October 22, 2018

 

Pre-ACT | All 10th-grade students will take the Pre-Act on Wednesday, October 24.  A 10th-grade assembly will take place on Monday, October 22 during 4th period to provide students with additional information about the test.

 

Resilience Screening | The EWHS PTSA will host a screening of the documentary Resilience in partnership with the Wake County PTSA.  This viewing will take place on Monday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.  Resilience is about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the significant impact they have on students.  A panel discussion will be apart of the program.  This screening is for adults only, however, childcare will be provided (the child must be potty trained). Food trucks will be on site for families to purchase dinner with part of the proceeds being donated to EWHS PTSA.

 

Parent Volunteers Needed | Please help out and support our athletic teams by volunteering in our concession stand.  The concession stand opens at 6 p.m.  Upon arrival; all volunteers are invited to enjoy one food item and a drink.  Thank you in advance!!!  To sign up, click on the following links:  Varsity Football Click here; JV Football Click Here

Career and College Promise (CCP) Spring Deadline| The last information sessions for new students to enroll for spring are next week (October 18th is the last session). Students who wish to enroll for Spring CCP courses must register for a session next week. The deadline for new student paperwork for spring is October 23. Continuing students (students already enrolled with CCP) will receive information about spring registration soon; they can begin registering on October 29.

 

JV and Varsity Cheerleading Tryouts| You are invited to try out for the 2018-2019 Cheerleading team. Make sure you pick up your cheerleading information packet from the from office. All forms must be submitted to Mr. Pridgen on October 24 at 5:45 p.m. Tryout dates are Monday, October 20, Tuesday, October 30, and Wednesday, October 31.

 

Marching Band Competition | The marching band will participate in a competition at Corinth Holders High on Saturday, October 27.

 

Powder Puff Game | The Powder Puff game will be on Tuesday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the football field.

 

ASVAB | The ASVAB test will be administered Wednesday, November 7 at 7:30 a.m. in the Media Center. Students may sign up in Student Services, the Media Center or on Mrs. Coble's door. Please sign up in only one location.

 

Volunteer Opportunity | The Town of Wendell needs someone seeking volunteer hours to record Town Hall meetings.  No experience is needed, EW22 will train you to record the meeting.  If you are interested, please let Mr. Alston know.

 

Food Pantry | Did you know that our school has their very own Food Pantry? If you are experiencing or you know of a family that is experiencing a stressful time and needs food, the East Wake High School Food Pantry is here to help. The Interfaith Food Shuttle recently stocked our pantry with fresh fruit, vegetables, and meats for families that may be experiencing difficult times. EWHS Food Pantry is open to any family in need. Hurricane Florence – Make-up Days |  October 31 was designated as a teacher workday and will now serve as a school day.   

 

Honey Baked Ham Fundraiser | The EWHS PTSA is holding a fundraiser with Honey Baked Ham from September 21 – November 15.  For more information, click here.  Please support this fundraising effort.

Yearbook | Yearbook flyers were distributed to students this week. Yearbooks are currently $60 for students (with tax, that makes them $65).  Checks can be made out to EWHS or cash should be taken to Ms. Anderson’s room 159.  Yearbooks can be ordered at  www.jostensyearbooks.com.  We do not order extras at the end of the year, and we always sell out every year.  Order yours today while the price is still low.
