EWHS Weekly Message – Week of October 15, 2018

Senior Tux/Drape Make-up Pictures | The make-up Senior Tux/Drape pictures will be on Thursday, October 18 in the Media Center. For more information, contact Ms. Lori Anderson.


Chorus Dessert Gala | The East Wake Chorus will perform at their annual Dessert Gala on Thursday, October 18 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Career and College Promise (CCP) Spring Deadline| The last information sessions for new students to enroll for spring are next week (October 18th is the last session). Students who wish to enroll for Spring CCP courses must register for a session next week. The deadline for new student paperwork for spring is October 23. Continuing students (students already enrolled with CCP) will receive information about spring registration soon; they can begin registering on October 29.


JV and Varsity Cheerleading Tryouts| You are invited to try out for the 2018-2019 Cheerleading team. Make sure you pick up your cheerleading information packet from the from office. All forms must be submitted to Mr. Pridgen on October 24 at 5:45 p.m. Tryout dates are Monday, October 20, Tuesday, October 30, and Wednesday, October 31.


HOSA Social | HOSA will have a social for club members on Tuesday, October 16 in the cafeteria from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.


Marching Band Competition | The marching band will participate in a competition at Fuquay Varina High on Saturday, October 20.


Powder Puff Practice | Participants in the Powder Puff game, will practice on Wednesday, October 17 at 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the practice football field.


ASVAB | The ASVAB test will be administered Wednesday, November 7 at 7:30 a.m. in the Media Center. Students may sign up in Student Services, the Media Center or on Mrs. Coble's door. Please sign up in only one location.


FFA Pancake Supper | The FFA is having the annual pancake dinner on October 19 from 5 to 7 in the cafeteria. If you would like to buy a ticket, you should see an FFA member or advisor. Come out to eat pancakes and sausage before the football game and support the FFA Chapter! See Mrs. Bracey or Ms. Harris if you have any questions or want to help serve pancakes.


Volunteer Opportunity | The Town of Wendell needs someone seeking volunteer hours to record Town Hall meetings.  No experience is needed, EW22 will train you to record the meeting.  If you are interested, please let Mr. Alston know.


ACE Mentor Program | The ACE Mentor Program is BACK in full swing again! The national program was founded in 1995 as an innovative way of attracting students, particularly from low-income populations into careers in the architecture, construction and engineering industry. ACE’s mission is to inform and excite high school students about career opportunities in architecture, construction, and engineering; encourage students to pursue a secondary and post-secondary education that will prepare them for careers in the integrated construction industry; and support the development of basic and technical skills through mentoring relationships. PTSA Meeting | The PTSA will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 16 in the Media Center at 6 p.m.


Food Pantry | Did you know that our school has their very own Food Pantry? If you are experiencing or you know of a family that is experiencing a stressful time and needs food, the East Wake High School Food Pantry is here to help. The Interfaith Food Shuttle recently stocked our pantry with fresh fruit, vegetables, and meats for families that may be experiencing difficult times. EWHS Food Pantry is open to any family in need. Mini Success Fair | Attention Juniors and Seniors! East Wake High School is hosting a Mini Success Fair on Tuesday, October 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the atrium and auditorium. Come to meet with local college and military representatives to start planning for your future success. Financial Aid information will also be available.


Hurricane Florence – Make-up Days | The weather make-up days have been revised.  October 19 was an early release day but will now become a full school day.  October 31 was designated as a teacher workday and will now serve as a school day.   


National Center of Women & Information Technology Award | Calling 9th-12th grade women! Applications are open for the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing. Recipients receive engraved awards, scholarship and internship opportunities, entry to a peer-network of technical women in the NCWIT AiC Community, various prizes, and more. Students can apply online at no later than 8:00 p.m. MST on November 5, 2018. Students with any level of experience are encouraged to apply: NCWIT recognizes aspirations as well as accomplishments!


ChickTech | Chick Tech High School is a free year-long program that introduces 100 high school girls to technology. The program kicks off with a 2-day event on Dec 1st and 2nd at Meredith College and then continues with monthly workshops around different careers, technologies, and companies. Food will be provided during the kick-off and all workshops. We also provide, on an as-needed basis, transportation to and from events and childcare. Our program provides a fun, positive learning experience designed to build participants’ confidence in their technical abilities, give them positive role models, create connections with other young women from the RDU area, and create a positive association with technology creation. Honey Baked Ham Fundraiser | The EWHS PTSA is holding a fundraiser with Honey Baked Ham from September 21 – October 19.  For more information, click here.  Please support this fundraising effort.

Yearbook | Yearbook flyers were distributed to students this week. Yearbooks are currently $60 for students (with tax, that makes them $65).  Checks can be made out to EWHS or cash should be taken to Ms. Anderson’s room 159.  Yearbooks can be ordered at  We do not order extras at the end of the year, and we always sell out every year.  Order yours today while the price is still low.
