East Wake HOSA Chapter Recognized
East Wake HOSA, Future Health Professionals, was recognized by National HOSA as an Outstanding HOSA Chapter at the 2015 HOSA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California. Brianna Satterwhite, 2014-15 Historian of East Wake HOSA led a committee to document all East Wake HOSA activities for the 2014-15 year. East Wake HOSA earned the right to compete at the national level by earning the North Carolina recognition of Outstanding HOSA Chapter at the 39th Annual North Carolina HOSA Leadership Conference in March 2015.
National HOSA guidelines state that the purpose of the Outstanding HOSA Chapter event is as follows:
“To encourage local HOSA chapters to achieve the goals of HOSA by implementing a plan of work with a focus on the development of leadership skills, career opportunities, and service learning among chapter members, and to document their achievements in the form of a chapter scrapbook. This event is designed to recognize excellence. “
Representatives from East Wake HOSA attended the 2015 HOSA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California, June 23 – 28, 2015. Eight thousand, eight hundred and fifty students and advisors from every state attended the conference. Brianna Satterwhite represented North Carolina and East Wake in the Outstanding HOSA chapter competition. Raymond Serrano, who earned the bronze medal for Pharmacology Knowledge Test at the 39th Annual North Carolina HOSA Leadership conference, represented East Wake and North Carolina in the Pharmacology Knowledge Test. Madison Aycock, who placed in the top 10 for Pathophysiology Knowledge Test at the state leadership conference represented East Wake and North Carolina in the health care issues exam. AJ Swaim, who along with team mate Matthew Etheridge placed in the top 10 for Community Emergency Response Team at the state conference, represented East Wake and North Carolina in the health care issues exam.
East Wake HOSA has over 100 members who plan to one day become health care professionals. By participating in HOSA, students have the opportunity to explore different health fields, develop leadership skills and serve their school and community. Advisors for East Wake HOSA are Sandy Tyndall and Pam Lister. The career technical student organization holds its membership drive in August and September.
