This summer Southeast Raleigh Promise hired 12 Southeast Raleigh WCPSS students, between the ages of 14-17, and two North Carolina State University mentors to participate in an internship focused on leadership and equity trainings as well as engage in a variety of programs, services and research opportunities related to SERP’s five strategic focus areas: Education, Health & Wellness, Economic Opportunity and Leadership Development.
We believe investing in the leadership capacity of our local youth is an equity strategy that will foster civically engaged servant leaders committed to making our community and world better for all people. We are co-creating positive connections and opportunities, although, mostly virtual due to COVID-19, designed to foster self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible, ethical decision making. We do this by striving to support social and emotional learning and skills, modeling collaborative leadership and economic opportunity, educating through experiential learning founded in personal relationships, and equipping youth with the tools and skills to start their leadership journey. Thank you to ALL our amazing young professional coaches and mentors, the Urban Legends Foundation, Write.Speak.Inspire, Raleigh Organizing Against Racism, the Southeast Raleigh YMCA, the Resiliency Collaborative, Interact Youth Education Services, Educational Justice Alliance and the John Rex Endowment for making this all possible!
