First Day Follow Up, 8/27/2024

Apex Friendship High Families,

It was truly wonderful to have our students back today.  Overall, it was a GREAT day to be a Pat!  A few quick items as we move into next days:

  • Movement.  There are many students at our school.  Particularly for new students, we strongly encourage them to explore routes to class, lunch, etc. that include all four stairwells.  On the first few days, stairwells in particular can be tight -- especially the one most proximate to the cafeteria and gym. Use of the other three stairwells as well can limit crowding in those spaces.

  • Heat.  We are thankful that our building was far cooler this first day of school compared with the last few years. That said, on warm days our building will be warm.  We had a few classrooms that needed relief but overall we were within normal limits. I am thankful for this and look forward to cooler weather.

  • Neighborhoods Near AFHS.  Please ensure that you are using the two AFHS carpool lanes to drop off and pick up.  Dropping off in the neighboring communities is unsafe.  Also, per Apex Police, cars parking on Blazing Trail received warnings today but will receive citations starting Wednesday.  Please ensure your students are parking only where permitted by the school / town.  Questions on this topic are best answered by our SROs.

  • Schedules.  The schedule change form will close at the end of the day on Thursday.  FYI

Again, a great day full of smiles and also great promise for the year ahead.  Please feel free to reach out to your student's administrator or counselor if we can do anything to support a great experience in the days and weeks ahead.

Take care,

Brian Pittman, Principal
