Fall Photo Retakes

Fall photo retakes are scheduled for November 19th.  Picture retakes are for the following students: 

• any student absent on the original date
• any new student that enrolled after the original date
• any student returning a package for retake

 

Update Current Home Address

Be sure if you have moved, that you provide our data manager with a new proof of residence.  We are updating our PowerSchool database as NC is transitioning to a new database on July 1 and we need to be sure that all student addresses are currently accurate.  If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Goodwin at mgoodwin1@wcpss.net or call the front office (919-841-4333).

Sycamore Creek Staff Update

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Drew Hermanson.  He will be serving as an Administrative Intern at Sycamore Creek through the end of this school year.  Before coming to Sycamore Creek, he taught Social Studies at Broughton High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, for seven years. Before joining WCPSS, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in History and from North Carolina State University with a Master of Arts in Teaching. He is currently a graduate student at NCSU as a Principal Fellow, pursuing a Master’s in School Administration.  Mr. Hermanson is eager to build a strong partnership with the Sycamore Creek community! 

 

Keeping Students Safe on the Internet

Thank you so much to all of you as parents who are closely monitoring your children’s use of devices on the internet and social media. The negative impact that unsupervised use has on young children is a growing concern.  Be sure to check out the WCPSS Resource Page.   If you scroll down under the main photo, you will see a computer labeled Digital Resources. There is a variety of context that may be helpful for you on digital safety and resources for parents. On this page, you'll find documentation on how parents can set up filtering on school devices (Digital Resources > Online Safety at School > Parental Control Solutions). 

 

Inflatables to Borrow 

Because we have met our Croc Mile goal, there will be a staff inflatable race on November 14th.  If you have an inflatable costume we can borrow for that day, we would be so appreciative.

 

Thanks-For-Giving

We still need 4 more families to sign up to support Thanks-For-Giving 2024!  If you are interested in donating a Thanksgiving sides box or a $20 Food Lion gift card to our “Thanks-For-Giving” program, please sign up via the link below. All donations need to be brought to school no later than Wednesday, November 20. Families have expressed preferring to get their own turkeys so we are doing the gift cards this year in lieu of actual turkeys. Thank you for your continued support! Thanks-For-Giving 2024

 

Holiday Cheer Program

As the holiday season approaches, Sycamore Creek Elementary School would like to invite you to participate in our Holiday Cheer Program. This program is designed to provide gifts for families in need at our school. You can participate in one of two ways. You can request that your child(ren) be sponsored to receive gifts, or you can volunteer to sponsor a student in need. The identity of all children participating in the program will be kept confidential. 

 

If you would like for your child(ren) to be sponsored, please fill out this form no later than Friday November 15. Gift pick-up will be December 18-20 during school hours!

 

If you would like to sponsor a child, please fill out this form, and a Student Support Services member will send you a link to our Holiday Cheer Sign-up to select a child to sponsor on Monday November 18.  All gifts need to be returned to school unwrapped, by Friday December 13.

Backpack Buddies Donations Needed

The Backpack Buddies pantry is currently low on canned veggies (corn, sweet peas, green beans), individual mac & cheese cups, and individually packaged snacks (chips, goldfish, crackers, cookies, etc.) If anyone is able to donate these items, they would be greatly appreciated! Please make sure to check expiration dates before donating, as we are unable to accept expired items.

TGA Golf and Tennis

Be sure to register for the next session of TGA Golf and Tennis!  

 

TGA has partnered with the United States Tennis Association to create a fun and innovative tennis program for your child that takes place after school on campus. TGA’s 5 level elementary school curriculum includes games, drills and physical fitness activities that improve motor skills, agility and hand-eye coordination. Every TGA class focuses on academic concepts developed by educational experts, the rules and etiquette of tennis and skill development. TGA brings all of the equipment, training materials and a 10:1 student to instructor ratio to allow for plenty of individual attention.

TGA Premier Junior Golf is specially designed for children and builds upon the educational concepts they are learning in the classroom including math and science.  Fun comes first in every TGA class, but the curriculum also focuses on improving motor skills and physical fitness as well as instilling self confidence and life values through professional golf instruction.  Students learn the fundamentals, etiquette and rules of the game in the comfortable environment of your school campus with a low 10:1 student to professional instructor ratio.  They  provide all the equipment and training materials so children of all skill levels have the chance to come out and tee it up with TGA!

Pine Hollow Middle School Calendar Change for 2025-2026

Per WCPSS School Board decision, Pine Hollow Middle School will follow a traditional school calendar beginning the 2025-2026 school year.

 

Volunteer Registration 

For new volunteer registrations, click the link to start your volunteer registration: https://myvolunteer.com/wcpss/volunteer/login.  On the MyVolunteer site, you will find disclosure and authorization forms, the WCPSS Volunteer Agreement, as well as a summary of rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You must review these documents and provide the requested information.  Make sure you include your name and contact information when you begin the registration process.  If you leave the CRC background site before completing your contact information, you will have to begin the process again.  You must include your social security number to register to volunteer.  If you do not have a social security number, please contact volunteers@wcpss.net or call 919-694-8233.  You will be notified by the MyVolunteer system if you are approved to volunteer.  If you have any issues during the volunteer registration process, contact the MyVolunteer customer support team at 877-272-0266 or customercare@mycrc.com.
