Principal's Message 8/10/20

Dear Jeffreys Grove Families,

 

A week from today we will have started the 2020-2021 school year! We are so excited for students and teachers to meet and look forward to kicking off a new school year together.

 

Important information regarding student material distribution is included in this message.

 

On August 18, 19 and 20 we will do grade leveled distribution of student materials, both morning and afternoon, based on the schedule below:

 

** Families with siblings will be asked to come on the day of their youngest child to get all of their children's materials.

With the help of our staff and PTA, we will be bagging up student instructional materials for the first nine weeks. Each student will receive a brown paper grocery bag; when it is the assigned day (AM/PM), families will come through the bus loop to take their bag home. Our teachers will distribute bags to families using proper social distancing protocols and PPE.
 We ask that families remain in their vehicle at all times.

 

Please note that the district is coordinating the distribution of Chromebooks and hotspots; if you requested a Chromebook or hotspot, you will follow the plan for technology distribution outlined by our district. On Friday, August 7th, you should have received communication from the district outlining student device distribution, which will begin on August 17 and will continue until all students have their devices. Families that requested devices will receive an email from the district Technology Services Division (not Jeffreys Grove) three days prior to when your devices will be ready for pick up. You will be able to pick up the devices on your assigned day or any day after. 

 

Jeffreys Grove will send more information later this week regarding:

 

    • Teacher assignments and Meet the Teacher date/ time. These announcements will come directly from your child’s teachers once teacher assignments are completed. We are still getting guidance from the district on building rosters in Powerschool. Your patience is appreciated as we continue to receive instructions on how to navigate this complex process. Teachers will communicate assignments and a specific date/time for a virtual “Meet the Teacher.”

    • Student online schedules. The school will share student schedules by grade level, and teachers will share your child’s daily schedule as well. Parents will be able to anticipate specific times for synchronous and asynchronous learning. During the first 2 weeks of school we will have a system wide orientation phase. During the first week parents should expect at least an hour of live orientations for parents and/or students in the morning. The second week of orientation will also incorporate at least an hour of live time in the morning with a gradual transition from orientation/“getting-to-know-you” activities to instructional activities. We will build up to the 2.5 hours of live instruction which will start at the beginning of week 3.
