Fox Road Magnet Elementary Receives NCASCD Whole Child Award

Congratulations to Fox Road Elementary Principal Robert Lewis and his staff for receiving the North Carolina ASCD Whole Child Award at the NCASD Whole Child Conference last week!

This award is given to schools or programs from across North Carolina that lead the way in positively changing students' lives through one or more of the Whole Child tenets (healthy, safe, engaged, supported, challenged). Awards are based on the program's overall impact on students' well-being as well as the impact on the students' ability to be successful in school. FoxRoadES was one of two recipients of this prestigious award this year.

Over the past seven years, Fox Road Magnet Elementary has doubled its passing rate on state reading tests, quadrupled it on the science test and saw a 65% increase in math tests. In addition, Magnet Schools of America awarded the school its highest level of certification this year, naming it a Nationally Certified Demonstration School.

FoxRoadES magnet coordinator Martha Hayes and first- grade teacher Suzanne Demick joined Dr. Lewis in accepting the award on Oct. 24
