4/8 Principal Message

Mt. Vernon Parents/Guardians,

Spring Break is upon us!! We have one week before we all get a little break before the final push of the year. As a reminder, Spring Break begins on Monday, April 15. We return to school on Tuesday, April 23. (Monday, April 22 is a teacher workday) I hope everyone has a restful Spring Break.

Report cards were mailed home on Friday, April 4. If you do not receive them in the mail by April 11, please contact the school.

On Thursday, April 11 @ 9:00 am, we will be celebrating our students that have earned A and A/B Honor Roll status for Quarter 3. We are very excited to celebrate the hard work of these students. If your child has earned A or A/B Honor Roll and you plan on attending, please contact the school to confirm your attendance (food purposes).

I want to take a moment to recognize that the staff here at Mt. Vernon also wants to recognize the hard work of all of our students. At times, this may not result in all A’s or A/B’s. We want to continue to celebrate our students when they are working hard. This work ethic will be what our students will take back to their base school or high school. If your child is working hard, please commend this when receiving their report card.

On Monday, your child brought home a packet with information from Panorama regarding a parent survey. This is a great opportunity for families to provide critical feedback to increase Mt. Vernon’s and Wake County’s practices. These surveys can be completed on paper copy (your child will bring home on Monday) or online. Either way will require you to use your student’s unique ID number. We will have laptops available at Mt. Vernon if you would like to fill it out while on campus. Since we are such a small school, our goal is 100% participation. We are currently sitting at an approximate 15% completion rate for the first week.  I If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Smith.

Ms. West has met with all of our students to register them for classes back at their base school. It is important that our students are setup for success for the 2019/20 school year. Please take a moment to review your child’s classes picked AND their school assignment as some have changed. For families interested in returning to Mt. Vernon for the 2019/20, we will be reaching out during the month of May to discuss the application process.

Please continue monitoring your child’s MAV Sheet nightly. This behavior management system serves to provide immediate positive feedback to our students while addressing areas in need of improvement. At times, the MAV sheets will also contain importance pieces of information for you and your family.
