10/29 Principal Message

Mt. Vernon Parents/Guardians,

Quarter 1

Quarter 1 will close this Tuesday for all students. Report Cards will be mailed home on Friday, November 2nd. Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions.

School Open on Halloween

Due to inclement weather from one of the Hurricanes, ALL WCPSS schools are open for business this Wednesday. We look forward to seeing your children.

This Wednesday, students will be permitted to come dressed up as a character from one of their favorite books. These costumes must still adhere to the Wake County Dress Code policy. Specifically, students are NOT permitted to wear anything that covers their face/head. If you are unsure if a costume meets the requirements, please contact the school. Please speak with your child regarding bringing in excess candy on Wednesday and/or Thursday. We certainly understand the desire to bring in some candy. We want to make sure that the candy does not take away from the educational environment.

Family and Community Engagement Event

We are in the process of rescheduling our Family and COmmunity ENgagement event canceled by Hurricane Michael. We are trying to be mindful of all of the events happening this time of year for our families. Through WCPSS’ Family Academy Office,  different programs are offered throughout the school year. Please go to for more information.

Magnet Window Open

The Wake County Early College and Magnet School window is now open. The Magnet, Early College and Year-Round Schools Fair will be held on Saturday, November 3, from 9-12pm at Southeast Raleigh Magnet HS. Please contact Ms. West if you have any questions regarding this process.

MAV Sheets

Please continue monitoring your child’s MAV Sheet nightly. This behavior management system serves to provide immediate positive feedback to our students while addressing areas in need of improvement. At times, the MAV sheets will also contain important pieces of information for you and your family.
