9/17 Principal Message
Good afternoon Parents/Guardians,
First and foremost, we hope everyone is safe from this weekend’s storm with minimal impact from Hurricane Flo. We recognize that all of us are impacted in different ways. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to help you and your family during this challenging time. The make-up days for this past week are:
- Thursday, September 13 - Now Wednesday, October 31
- Friday, September 14 - Now Saturday, October 13
- Monday, September 17 - Now Wednesday, November 21
The district is reviewing calendar options/flexibility and will communicate directly with parents if there are any changes to the schedule listed above. We are hopeful to all get back into our normal routine later on this week. Below, you will find a list of scheduled events that we will continue to hold here at Mt. Vernon.
Maverick Family Academics Night and Open House
Mt. Vernon will be hosting an informative work session for families on Thursday, 9/27 at 6pm. This event will begin with information that was originally scheduled to be shared at our Open House event. Then, we will review a brief overview of how WCPSS defines success as a student. Families will then break into grade level teams to review student-specific iReady data points and how to interpret this information. Finally, families will work with staff members to determine different ways to support our students outside of the classroom. Dinner and childcare will be provided. Please RSVP by returning this flyer or by calling the main office.
Round Table with Mr. Hokenberg
Starting in September, I will be hosting a roundtable event for parents to join me to discuss all things Mt. Vernon and any other topics that parents would like to discuss. With the feedback provided by parents, I will be offering multiple times and locations throughout the school year to meet with families. The first event will be held on the campus of Mt. Vernon Middle School on Thursday, 9/20. On this day, we will offer two separate times for families to join. Session 1 will be held at from 10-11am and session 2 will be from 6:30-7:30pm. For the morning session, light refreshments will be served. Unfortunately, we will be unable to provide childcare as students will be on campus. For the second session, a light dinner will be served and we will be able to provide childcare. Please RSVP for the event by completing this Sign-Up Genius link or by contacting the office and letting us know which session and how many people will be in attendance.
Please continue monitoring your child’s MAV Sheet nightly. This behavior management system serves to provide immediate positive feedback to our students while addressing areas in need of improvement. At times, the MAV sheets will also contain important pieces of information for you and your family.
