Greetings, Jets! In preparation for the week ahead, please review the important information below:

This Week at BCES | May 16-20

  • Tracks 1, 3, & 4 have school Monday-Friday.
  • The PTA Spring Festival is Friday evening in the bus loop from 6:00-9:00 pm.
  • Friday is a Family-School Partnership Day for Pre-K students.
  • Interims for T3 & T4 will be sent home on Friday.
  • In Positivity Project, Track 1  will study the character strength of Kindness this week. Track 3 will study Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence. Track 4 will study Purpose. The P2 for Families website has information you can use to dive into deeper discussion about character with your child. The password is P2.

Voting at BCES Tuesday

Elections are taking place on Tuesday and the gym will once again serve as a polling place. Please be aware of the extra traffic near our school on Tuesday by being vigilant and allowing for extra time.

Track Assignments

Track assignments for rising kindergarteners, VA students returning to in-person instruction, and other students who will be new to our school were mailed last weekend. If you did not receive a postcard for your new or returning in-person student, please contact our Data Manager, Mark Flynn, at

EOG Testing to Begin for Track 1 Next Week

Track 1 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students will take their End of Grade tests the week of May 23. Please check here to ensure you have the EOG dates for your child(ren) marked on your calendar. 

PTA Updates

Spring Festival: Come out to the bus loop Friday, May 20th from 6:00pm-9:00pm for our PTA Spring Festival!  There will be Food Trucks, Games, an Obstacle Course, a Giant Slide, Music, and more!  Bracelets are required to play on the inflatables.  Bracelets may be bought at the event ($10) or in advance ($7) at  Children under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult.  No drop-offs, and no pets.  We look forward to seeing you there!


The Read is On!  Has your child signed up for the Spring Readathon Fundraiser yet?  Please sign up at and make sure to add your contacts.  Currently we have 58 awesome participants and have almost raised $4000!!  We only have 12 more days to raise money to help pay for school supplies, picnic tables, water fountains, digital subscriptions, field trip scholarships, school spirit shirts, library books and special events!  The PTA needs YOU!  Please sign up, add contacts, and have the kids READ!!

Readers are Leaders!  Congratulations so far to Mrs. Doherty's 2nd grade class for leading the pack on the amount raised!  Schoolwide, 58 participants have read 313 books so far.  Claire Baker, 2nd grader, the school-wide leader, has read 52 books.  Conrad Baker, 4th grader, is coming in 2nd place with 48 books, and Madison Choi, another 2nd grader, is super close with 40 books.  Rewards like bookmarks, stickers, pop-it wristbands, keychains, and roller erasers have been continuously given out to students for signing up and providing contacts, raising certain amounts, and reading 25 books.  Please sign up today!  THE READ IS DEFINITELY ON!!


Staff Appreciation: BCES families, thank you so much for your participation in May’s Letting Our Lights Shine Appreciation weeks!!  If these weeks did not fit well in your schedule, no problem!  Please feel free to celebrate the BCES staff whenever you have a chance.  Staff favorites can be found on the PTA's website.  We are continuing to collect Shout Out Cards through the month of May, so please share how much BCES staff means to your family and drop cards off in purple boxes at the entryways to the school or in the PTA box in the front office.  We will be displaying these cards soon near the front office.
