Principal's Post | February 1, 2021

Greetings Jets Parents,

I hope this week’s updates find each of you well. You should have received your child’s 2nd quarter report card from your teacher on Friday. If not, please contact your child’s teacher. Here are the parents updates for the first week of February

Learning This Week

All students will learn virtually this week. Wednesday will be an asynchronous day for all.

Planning for PAC Night (From Our Family-School Connections Committee)

Parents, We are so excited to prepare for our 20/21 Virtual Parents Are Connected night event! We truly value your input and feedback in order to make this successful and enjoyable for you, all of our wonderful BCES families! If you could please complete this very brief survey so that we can have as much information as possible to plan PAC night and to support engagement among our school community we would greatly appreciate it. Please use this link. Thank you! ~Family-School Connections Crew

National School Counseling Week

This week, we will be celebrating National School Counseling Week!  "School Counselors: All In for All Students," is Feb. 1-5, 2021, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. We are so fortunate to have TWO wonderful counelors here at Brier Creek, Sheila Marshall and Brianne Greene.

Important: Complete a Meal Benefits Application by Feb. 26, 2021

Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits by Feb 26. For every student that turns in the free and reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school receives federal funds that benefit the student and teachers at the school. These funds provide additional teachers and staff for the school which means more services for students, especially students that are struggling in reading or math. These funds also are used for materials and supplies for students and teachers. These are valuable resources that teachers can use to improve student achievement.

Yes, meals will still be free for all students through June 2021 but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra funding next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits for the 2020-21 school year can be found at www.wcpss.net/Page/1849 . Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at MySchoolApps.com. Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.

P2 This Week: Integrity

In P2 this week, students will be learning about INTEGRITY. Integrity is doing the right thing even when nobody's watching. People with integrity maintain a consistent pattern of behavior aligned with their values and have the courage not to follow the crowd if it means going against their beliefs. For resources you can use at home with your child, visit the P2 for Families Portal and use the password P2.

Q3 Materials

We passed out materials last week to the vast majority of our students. Thank you to the parents who came out! We will be at the corner of St. Giles St. and Deep Hollow Dr. on Monday at 11:00 am for those families who have indicated they will be there. If you still need to get your child’s materials, please let your child’s teacher know when we can expect you and come to school during office hours, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

I hope you have a wonderful week! Thank you for your continued support of our school, our children, and our community!

Your Proud Principal,

Kathy Livengood
