Spring Options for Families

Since the announcement that we would return to in-person learning in October, I have already received almost 150 requests for students to change their spring enrollment. Except for those who submitted their request after November 30 and December 6, you should have already received confirmation from me about your child’s enrollment. At this time, the district is accepting spring enrollment changes between virtual and in-person learning on the district website. The deadline to change spring enrollment is Wednesday, December 9.

You only need to change your student's enrollment if you wish to change from the choice you began the year on.

You don't need to complete the application if:

  • Your student is currently registered in the WCPSS Virtual Academy for the full year and wishes to continue for the spring semester;
  • Your student is currently registered in the WCPSS Virtual Academy for the fall semester only and wishes to switch to Plan A/B/C for the spring semester;
  • Your student is registered for Plan A/B/C and you wish to continue with Plan A/B/C.

You should complete the application if:

  • Your student is not currently registered in the WCPSS Virtual Academy for the spring semester but wants to be;
  • Your student registered in the WCPSS Virtual Academy for the fall only and wants to continue for the spring semester;
  • Your student is registered for the WCPSS Virtual Academy in the spring semester, but wants to change to Plan A/B/C.

Spring Calendar Pending Change

At the Dec. 1 work session, staff presented an updated 2020-2021 Single Track Year-Round calendar option that would allow for a short summer vacation prior to the start of the 2021-2022 Multi-Track Year-Round school year. The board is expected to vote on the revised calendar at its Dec. 15 meeting. The proposed calendar can be viewed here

Holiday Assistance - How to Support Families in Need

Typically, our Mitten Tree holiday assistance program has an overwhelming response from our community. Due to COVID-19, we can’t do Mitten Tree as we normally would, but we still want to offer holiday assistance to families who need it. This year, our Counseling and Student Services Department is partnering with the PTA for a Gift Card Drive. We will distribute the gift cards to Brier Creek Elementary families. You can drop-off gift cards at school during office hours, or mail them to school, Attention: Gift Card Drive. We will collect cards through Friday, December 11. Any store, any amount is appreciated, especially to stores in the Brier Creek and Pleasant Valley areas. We have 52 students to whom we would like to provide assistance, but will need our community’s support to ensure we have enough gift cards to be able to support all of these students.

Immunizations Deadline Has Passed

After multiple extensions, Tuesday Dec. 1 was the state deadline for Kindergarteners and other students new to WCPSS to submit a certification of immunization and a school health assessment. The 30-day grace period will end December 30, 2020. After the 30-day grace period, a student would have to be excluded from in-person and remote learning until compliant with these legal requirements. Learn more about NC Health Requirements, including required health assessment and proof of immunizations.

Positivity Project This Week: Optimism

Starting Monday, students are learning about OPTIMISM. People who are optimistic expect the best from the future and work to achieve positive results. For a 1-page character card overview, click here. And, for P2 for Families (password: P2), click here.
