Return to Headlines

Principal's Post | April 27, 2020

Greetings Jets Parents!

By now I’m sure you have heard the news that we will not be returning to the building this school year. While this is not unexpected news, it is certainly disappointing to all of us at Brier Creek. Until the past few weeks, none of us ever pictured ending a school year like this, but your teachers are already working to make the best of it and help your children get all they can out of the rest of the school year. And, yes, the 5th grade team is already considering plans for how to celebrate our 5th graders before they go to middle school.  When it is safe, we will establish dates and times for families to retrieve belongings from the building. As for next year, we do not yet know if and/or how the on-going pandemic will affect our opening in July. As soon as we have information on that, I will let you know.

Please see below for important announcements for this week:

Remote Learning Feedback and Updates

Congratulations, parents, on completing week 2 of remote learning! This is a tough time, but you are doing a great job! All we ask is that you do what you can to support your child with continued learning this year. It doesn’t mean every activity has to be complete and every Google Meet attended -- it just means do what you can in light of the current circumstances. Each family and child is unique with unique needs and unique circumstances. Don’t stress, do your best, forget about the rest!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts through surveys sent by your teachers about Remote Learning last week! It was helpful feedback for the teachers as they planned together this week. I was touched to see all of the recognition and thanks you gave to your teachers for their work, clarity, accessibility, and caring. Overwhelmingly, you told us the amount of work your child was asked to do was right on target. We recognize that flexibility is key right now, so if you need something different, please let your teacher know.

Are you or your child experiencing technology issues while remote learning? You can find support on the Remote Learning Resources - Technology Support page, or, families can contact the WCPSS Help Desk directly by calling 919-694-8100 from 7:00 am - 5:00 pm, weekdays. You can also go to the Help Desk website anytime. These FAQs can help you troubleshoot as well.

Remote learning will continue for all tracks according to the 19-20 Remote Learning Calendar

Spring Class Pictures for T3/T4

If you ordered and paid for a class picture, these will be available for you to pick-up from school when we open later this spring for families to retrieve belongings. Stay tuned to Principal Posts for more information. (Information on ordering individual pictures was in last week’s Principal’s Post. Contact your child’s teacher if you need your code.)

Track Change Requests and Assignments for New Students

If you submitted a track change request this spring, it is currently being reviewed. You will be notified in early May whether your request was approved or denied. Track assignments for new students will be complete by mid-May. If you have a current BCES student and a rising Kindergartener, your KinderJet will be assigned the same track as his/her sibling.

Planning for Next Year

Even with this uncertainty, we are still moving forward with planning for next year. If you are currently assigned to Brier Creek Elementary next year, but won’t be returning for the 20-21 school year, will you please complete this Family Intent Survey to help us plan accordingly?

Lunch with Livengood

Lunch with Livengood continues on Mondays for 3-5 and Tuesdays for K-2. We have lots of fun - I hope your children will join us! Thanks for Ms. VonDerHeide who was our Guest Reader last week and also shared with students how to use Board Builder in Discovery Ed. You never know who else may show up in the coming weeks! Your child MUST be logged in to his/her WakeID in order to access the Meet. Contact your child's teacher if you need the meeting code/nickname.
