Volunteer Status Reactivation

If you were a WCPSS-approved volunteer last year and have not yet reactivated your status, please do so by Thursday, October 31. Reactivation can be done on any WCPSS campus or at the Athens Drive Public Library. Please come in during office hours to reactivate your status. After October 31, to be an approved volunteer, you will have to submit a new application and WCPSS will conduct a new background check.

Halloween

The celebration of Halloween is a beloved and fun tradition for many of our students and families, while for others, it is not celebrated at all. I ask that all students and families remember that it is up to all of us to ensure school is a safe place for all, emotionally as well as physically. While students and staff may wear festive, seasonal clothing, full costumes should be reserved for after-school events at home. Students will not be permitted to wear face paint, masks, hats/head coverings, or anything gory. Children also should not bring any props, toys, or candy to school.

Teacher of the Year Finalists

The staff has nominated their colleagues and the BCES Teacher of the Year finalists have been announced! Congratulations to our finalists:

  • Aubrey  DiOrio, 1st Grade
  • Althea Hrbek, Special Education
  • Tracey Lipkins, Kindergarten
  • Melanie Osorio, 2nd Grade

Veteran’s Day Holiday

Brier Creek and the Wake County Public School System will observe Veteran’s Day on Monday, November 11. There is no school that day and all schools and WCPSS offices will be closed that day.

PTA News and Updates from your PTA President, Brittany Wells

  • Month of October – Box Top Collection: The first of two grade level competitions with Box Top turn-in begins! Please clip and send in your Box Tops in a bag labeled with your child’s grade (each Box Top gives the PTA 10 cents and it adds up quickly). The grade turning in the most will receive a special prize.
  • We will have our second PTA playground social on Sunday, November 3rd from 2-3pm.  Come hang out with other BCES families while the kids have fun playing on the playground.
  • Our next PTA Board Meeting is Monday, November 4th at 6pm in the Media Center.  All are welcome!
  • We are excited to announce our Jets Night Out at THE CODER SCHOOL on November 20th.  Students will enjoy a fun night of programming their very own computer game, and afterwards will receive a special login to be able to play it from home.  While there is an enrollment fee for each child of $10, The Coder School will donate $20 to the BCES PTA for each child that signs up. There are currently 2 sessions available with only 15 spots each.  The links to sign up are available on our website: http://briercreekpta.org/family-nights-out/ .
  • Interested in Yearbooks?  The PTA will be working with Treering to produce 2019-20 BCES Yearbooks this year.  Watch for more details soon!

Please look for the weekly email from your child’s teacher and check your child’s grade-level website for additional information. Grade-level websites can be found here. Please reach out to your child’s teachers with any questions.
