Fall 2019 Parents are Connected Night Coming Soon!

We hope you will join us from 5:30-7:00 on Wednesday, August 14th for our Fall 2019 Parents are Connected Night! We will have 3 rotations (5:30-5:55, 6:00-6:25, and 6:30-6:55) where you can learn more about what your child is up to at Brier Creek this year and how you can support him/her at home. A detailed schedule will be released soon, but you can expect to be able to choose from topics such as:

  • Curriculum Connections in Your Child’s Classroom (with work samples from your child and information from your child’s teacher)
  • Flex Friday Fun (hear from the Specialists’ about the choices your 2nd-5th grader has for his/her Friday specials)
  • Read to Achieve Requirements (highly encouraged for 3rd grade families)
  • Reading Benchmark and Screening
  • Number Sense Assessments for K-2 Families
  • Positivity Project, Boarding Pass Reinforcements, and other Social-Emotional supports for children
  • Multi-Tiered System of Supports

Our Newest High Flyer: Jennifer Lee

Congratulations to School Counselor Jennifer Lee, our newest High Flyer! The High Flyer Award is passed from one staff member to another each month as a way to recognize staff members who go above and beyond the call of duty. Ms. Lee was given this honor last week by the previous recipient, Mr. Bell. According to Mr. Bell, Ms. Lee has the essential assets of a heart full of love, ears ready to listen, and hands willing to help others. He said he is in awe of her ability to make children feel safe and she is a person people count on here at Brier Creek.

PTA News and Updates- from your PTA President, Brittany Wells

  • The contest for Track 4 PTA memberships will take place July 28- August 16.  Help your child's class earn a pizza or popcorn party for most percentage of memberships.  Tracks 1-3, while your contest window has already closed, your voice is most welcome- if you have not yet, please sign up to be a PTA member.  Fill out the form sent home in your child's purple folder or join online at .
  • We would like to invite all Track 4 kindergarten families to have popsicles in the park following meet the teacher on Friday, August 2nd.  This will take place in the shelter near the community center playground at the entrance to the BCES parking lot.
  • Please join us for our first PTA playground social on Saturday, August 10th from 10am-11am at the BCES playground.  Come meet other families in the school while the kids play.
  • We will have our first PTA General Meeting on Wednesday, August 14th at 7pm in the cafeteria.  This will take place after PAC night.  We will be voting on our approved budget for the year.  We will have a raffle for PTA members who come to get scholastic book fair dollars to use at the upcoming book fair, and popcorn for all!
  • We will be hosting a Note in the Pocket clothing drive from August 12-23.  Note in the Pocket provides donated and purchased clothing to impoverished and homeless children and their families in Wake County.  Clothing of all sizes are accepted for donation, but the items most useful to the students are clothing items in size 5T to adult. We will have boxes to drop off donated clothing by the media center.
  • Join our BCES students in showing school spirit by pre-ordering your school shirt today.  For our second year, we are taking pre-orders so that parents, guardians, and BCES community members can have the same shirts our students and staff will be given.  We have been told by staff that having parents in shirts that match theirs and students makes it easier for chaperones to be identified not just by the staff on the trip but more importantly ALL students on the trip.  Use this link to pre-order shirts: .

Please look for the weekly email from your child’s teacher and check your child’s grade-level website for additional information. Grade-level websites can be found here. Please reach out to your child’s teachers with any questions.

My Jets Best,

Kathy Livengood, Principal
