Shout outs!

  • First and foremost- a HUGE shout out to our Stough Elementary School teachers.  Woo-Hoo!  The job of teacher continues to get harder every year as our society places greater demands with fewer resources.  I am constantly in awe of the work you do, and you teach me something new every day.  Thank you for choosing to be a teacher, and for choosing to work at Stough Magnet Elementary School.  You are seen, you are heard, you are valued, and you are loved!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

  • Monday is National Nurses Day!  I want to send a shout of thanks to Annie Bryan, our new school nurse.  Annie has been with us for a few weeks now, and she is holding the high bar set by Nurse Baley.  Annie, we are so happy you are here at Stough!

  • Monday evening Ms. Mariella and I will be attending the Teacher of the Year Banquet with Ms. Hobgood and her husband.  We are very excited to celebrate Amanda and are proud to have her represent the great teachers on our staff.  Congratulations again, Amanda!

  • Thank you to our PTA parents Katie Ethridge and Lauren Winslow for working hard to design our Stough Elementary School yearbooks.  I know how difficult and time consuming this process is, and I am grateful for your willingness to ensure that our community has a quality yearbook.  The 2023-2024 edition looks wonderful!  Thank you!

Positivity Project: May 6-10: Leadership

  • This week we will be learning about the character trait of leadership.  Leadership means you value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best.

  • Please use the following link to access the family newsletter for this week.

Panorama Survey

  • Wake County Family Surveys are live! The Survey runs through May 17. We need your help to ensure we hear from as many family voices as possible! If you haven't already done so, please complete the survey surveys.panoramaed.com/wakecounty/family

  • As of May 3rd, we have 100 families responding to the Panorama Survey.  Our goal is for ALL families at Stough to complete the survey.  This ensures a large enough sample size for the data to be valid and valuable to our school community.  Please take some time to complete the survey.  Thank you!

Super Kids Day at Stough Elementary

  • Save the Date:  Friday, May 10th Super Kids Day (Rain Date May 17th)

  • It will soon be time for STOUGH STUDENTS to celebrate the summer getting closer with SUPER KIDS DAY!  This wonderful field day will only be possible with plenty of parent volunteers!

  • We will need your help to run the games!  This fun event is easy – no timing events, no keeping score.  You just need to come with a smile, energy, and encouragement for our young participants as they enjoy games and popsicles on the playground. Use this link if you wish to help out.

  • Please be reminded that if you do wish to help that day, you must be a WCPSS approved volunteer.  If you are not registered it can be done online at home or come to the office at Stough.  Approval can take about a week, so it is recommended to register as soon as possible.  Volunteers are able to apply at this link or wcpss.net>Community>Volunteers

  • Questions? Contact Mathew Hooker, PE Teacher (919-881-4950) or e-mail at mhooker1@wcpss.net

Spring is Here!  Let’s talk about dress code.

  • One of the best measures of how much your child has grown over the winter is the fit of their clothing come springtime.  All of the sudden, shorts and shirts that fit last summer are too short, too tight, too small.  I know how busy and hectic morning routines can be.  I want to remind you to be intentional about looking at what your child is wearing, especially if you have an older elementary student.  Please make sure students are appropriately covered with no exposed undergarments or bare midriffs, even when they remove layers of clothing like hoodies or jackets.  Thank you!

Cell phones

  • We are beginning to see an increasing number of students using their cell phones during the school day.  The expectation is that students do not have cell phones on campus.  With that said, I do understand they are needed for safety reasons in some situations.  Please speak to your child about cell phones expectations.  We are not going to search for cell phones.  If a cell phone rings during class, or if a student has a cell phone out of their book bag during the school day, we will follow protocol:

    • First offense- teacher confiscates a cell phone and turns it into administration.  Cell phones will be returned to students at the end of the day.

    • Second offense- teacher confiscates a cell phone and turns it into administration.  Cell phones will be returned only to a parent/caregiver.

    • Third offense- teacher confiscates a cell phone and turns it into administration.  Cell phones will be returned at the end of the school year.

Stough Magnet Elementary PTA

  • Stough PTA Spring Online Auction (5/10-22):  LAST CALL FOR DONATIONS!

    • There's still time to donate an item or service to our online auction! Check out our flyer for donation ideas! Our prizes so far range from staycations in the area to pool parties. We need the help of the entire community to make this important fundraiser a success.

  • Stough Staff Appreciation Week is This Week!

    • One of the most vibrant and fulfilling service arms of the PTA is staff appreciation. You work hard to help us raise funds throughout the year to support our teachers and PTA plans a week long celebration with staff meals, treats and fun on behalf of all of our families. Emily McBrayer and her crew have planned an amazing week in celebration of our entire staff. Thank you to all who have signed up to help us celebrate this week!

Have a wonderful week!
