Principal's Message, 11-18-22
Greetings Stough Families,
It was great to see so many of you at Family Conferences this past week. I hope we can all appreciate that open communication between school and home (in-person, if possible!) edifies the partnership that benefits our students over time. Thanks to all of you for your willingness to support our efforts for all 518 kids at Stough every day!
Here are your weekly updates:
1. Students attend school only on Monday and Tuesday next week. There is no school from November 23-27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
2. We take our role in maintaining the safety and security of our campus very seriously. Today, our whole school participated in a Code Red Lockdown Drill. This effort is a collaboration between the school, Wake County Schools Security and the Raleigh Police Department. Based on the debrief with the officers after the drill, our school and its staff performed quite well. Of course, there are some areas that we can improve, and we will work together to ensure that all are up to speed on best practices in case of a lockdown. If you have specific questions regarding emergency procedures, feel free to reach out to me directly.
3. Look for a flyer coming home today about Global Festival (December 8). The evening will last from 5:30-8pm, and all students will have the opportunity to perform on stage. There will also be games and exhibits hosted by our students and families. We plan to serve dinner in the cafeteria as well.
4. This week and next week in P2, we will continue to study the trait gratitude. I thought this letter with embedded links from P2 might be useful to you and your families this Thanksgiving week.
5. Stough Tours continue on a weekly basis through the winter! Please forward our tour sign-up link to any families with rising kindergartners who may be interested in our school.
6. This is the last call for retrieval of items in the Stough Lost & Found. Items will be donated after Thanksgiving break. Moving forward, please remember to label students' bottles, lunch bags and jackets.
7. A couple of our instructional leaders could use some parent volunteers this week. We have materials for math and Mandarin activities that need to be cut and assembled. If you can stop by school for an hour or more, please contact Mrs. Shumake (Magnet Coordinator) at ashumake@wcpss.net or Mrs. Cox (Instructional Facilitator) at scox@wcpss.net. Thanks in advance!
