Principal's Message, 5-7-21
Greetings Stough Families,
Here are your Weekly Updates:
1. Next week is a four-day week of live learning. Thursday, May 13 is an asynchronous day.
2. WCPSS updated its mask policy this week. Here is the exact language provided to principals:
We are formally updating our guidance about face coverings based on the newest guidance issued today by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) in the StrongSchoolsNC Public Health Toolkit. The guidance makes the use of masks optional while outdoors, but still requires masks for children ages 5 and older while indoors and on school transportation.
For that reason, face coverings are no longer required outdoors for recess, classes held outdoors, outdoor PE class, outdoor eating, and similar small gatherings. Face coverings will still be required indoors and on school transportation.
Please note that the option belongs to the student or staff member on whether to wear a mask outdoors. A school does not have the option to mandate a mask requirement outdoors.
NCDHHS still recommends that anyone who is not vaccinated continue to wear a face covering when they are closer than six feet to another person, even when outdoors. However, this is a NCDHHS recommendation and not a requirement.
3. Summer Learning Camp is an opportunity provided automatically to students across the District who qualify based on peformance data. We have sent out letters to all Stough students that fell in this category. Based on state legislation, we can also offer this camp to students who do not automatically qualify, however space is limited. Please fill out this Google Form if you would like your student to be considered for Stough's six-week summer learning opportunity. Decisions for admittance will be based on performance levels and available space by grade level. Our contact for camp is Mrs. Shaw (lshaw2@wcpss.net).

5. This week in P2, we studied the trait leadership. Next week is the final week in the 2020-21 P2 Calendar. And, we'll be focusing on the Other People Mindset. This mindset consists of the five elements intended to help people understand ways to build positive relationships in their own lives: identifying and appreciating the good in others, knowing my words and actions affect others, supporting others when they struggle, cheering others’ successes, and being present and giving others my attention.
6. Here is a summer opportunity from one of our own Stough families for anyone interested in football:
Broughton Football is excited to present the fourth annual Fastbreak Football camp. This year's camp will run from Monday, 6/28 to Friday, 7/2 and is open to boys and girls in rising 4th - 8th grades.
Fastbreak Football Camp is unique in that it focuses on character education, general athletic development, and weight room fundamentals in addition to football specific instruction. Coaches at Fastbreak Football Camp will teach young athletes the key character traits required of good teammates, the fundamentals of the game of football, and the athletic postures and movements necessary to excel in any sport. Instruction will be clear and concrete. Activities will be fun and fast-paced.
Register today by visiting www.fastbreakfootballcamp.com. The special Early Bird Rate expires on May 15th. Financial Aid is available. No camper will be turned away for financial reasons.
