Principal's Message, 3-13-20
Greetings Stough Families,
There is certainly a lot on everyone's mind as we navigate the coronavirus, its impact and the decisions of leaders in various roles. I've included the most recent information and links in the weekly update below under item #2.
1. As of now (Friday afternoon), next week is a five-day week of school.
2. Here is the most recent update from Wake County Schools regarding the coronavirus. It includes information about cleaning, absences and school trips. I'm also including a helpful article from the National Association of School Psychologists that our staff has used with our students this week. I think it will help all of us as parents as well.
3. This week in P2, we studied SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE. Next week we will focus on the character strength, LOVE OF LEARNING. Here's the one-page document to use at home, and here's a quick explanation about this trait:
Love of learning means that you master new skills and topics on your own or in school. Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.
4. The window for Wake County's process for Single Subject Acceleration is approaching. Here are the details:
The Nomination window for Single Subject Acceleration or SSA at Stough will be open March 23-27. SSA allows students to show mastery of content in select elementary or middle school courses. Students who prove mastery do not have to take the course and may move on to the next level. Parents may nominate their child to skip a grade level of content in either English Language Arts or Mathematics.
The SSA nomination form is due to Mrs. Cecconi-Roberts before final dismissal time on March 27. Testing will be April 20-30. For more information and applications, please see the Wake County News section of the school website, or feel free to email Mrs. Cecconi-Roberts at lcecconi-roberts@wcpss.net.
5. A note from your Stough PTA Board:
6. Here are the rest of the updates from your Stough PTA:
