Principal's Message, 1-17-20
Greetings Stough Families,
Here are the weekly updates:
1. Next week is a four-day week of school. Students are not in school Monday, January 20 for the Martin Luther King holiday.
2. "Cool School" Field Trip - You may have heard that our whole school is taking a field trip to PNC Arena for a READ-volution Program with the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, February 20! (We were one of nine Wake County Schools selected.) The permission form is in your child's Friday Folder today. It is very important that we receive all permission forms back by Friday, January 24. Each form needs your signature, health information and whether you are granting photo permission for your child (there will be media coverage of this event). Unfortunately we are limited in the number of tickets and chaperones, so we will not be inviting all parents for this event. Look for more details in the weekly messages leading up to the field trip.
3. We are aware that there have been difficulties with Here Comes the Bus recently. The Transportation Office notified us that the app will be rebooting this weekend and should be updated and ready for accurate bus information next week. If you haven't signed up or need to download the app again, use the District Code 67500 and your student's ID number to register.
For future bus needs, I'm also including the link for any/all transportation inquiries here: WCPSS Transportation Concerns
4. This week, our students focused on the trait PRUDENCE. Next week, our P2 trait will be PERSEVERANCE. People demonstrating high levels of perseverance are able to handle significant, sometimes repeated, setbacks in pursuit of goals. Here is a one-page overview you can use to continue the conversation with your families.
5. Our Stough Spelling Bee is Friday morning, January 24 at 10am in the gymnasium. We have 33 spellers who qualified. Parents are welcome to attend. The rest of the school should be able to view the recording of the spelling bee after our Global Learning Rotations for Chinese New Year.
6. Our Sustainable STEM Night is coming up the evening of March 5. All of our students will have the opportunity to engage with the Sustainable Development Goals from the United Nations and connect these goals to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. If you or someone you know works in these fields and would be interested in volunteering to support this extended learning for our students at STEM Night, please connect with Amy Galvan at agalvan@wcpss.net.
