Principal's Message 10-18 and 10-25-19
Greetings Stough Families,
This installment of the weekly message will serve for today and next week as well. For the next two weeks, I am honored to represent Stough on the College Board's 2019 Bridge Delgation to China. This is a great opportunity for me as I dive deeper into what it means to lead a Global School and a Mandarin Immersion program like ours. In my absence, please connect with our Assistant Principal, Ms. Alford at ralford@wcpss.net.
1. October 21-25 is a regular five-day week of school. The following week, students attend school for four days, October 28-31. Friday, November 1 is a Teacher Workday.
2. October 28-31 is also our Anti-Bullying Spirit Week! Here's a glance at how students can support this cause each day:
Monday, October 28 - "Sock it to Bullying!" ... wear crazy socks!
Tuesday, October 29 - "Give Bullying the Boot!" ... Western Day (boots, plaid shirts, etc.)
Wednesday, October 30 - "Sticking Together Against Bullying" ... twin day
Thursday, October 31 - "Upstanders Show Good Character" ... your favorite book character who is a positive role model
Friday, November 1 (Teacher Workday) - "Let's Put Bullying to Sleep!" ... pijama day (at home!)
3. Next week is an important week in P2. We will talk in-depth about the trait, PERSPECTIVE. This trait is defined as the ability to see the world from another person's viewpoint. This is such a challenge for kids and adults, and it truly communicates the "Other People Matter" mindset that drives the theme of all our work. To continue the conversation at home with your families, check out the Perspective Character Card.
4. READvolution is in full swing! We hope no matter what that all our students are reading at least 20 minutes per day. If you'd like to log your reading, the Carolina Hurricanes are willing to reward you with hockey tickets! Students can log reading at home or at school with their WakeID... or you can log-in at this website. Currently, Ms. Zhang's kindergarten class and Ms. Qian's second grade class are leading the charge for Stough with each class logging almost 2,000 minutes of reading! Great job Stallions!
5. The North Carolina Museum of Art will soon open a new exhibit, "Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism." Stough recently received two passes for up to six free admittances each! Your student can check out a pass from our Media Center when your family would like to attend. The exhibit runs from October 26 - January 19.
6. Magnet Season is in full-swing, and the main event for Wake County Magnet Schools is next week. The District's Magnet Fair will be held on Saturday, October 26 from 9am-12pm at Panther Creek High School. For any of your friends and neighbors interested in Stough (or other magnet schools), please recommend that they stop by! Also, for any of our current fifth graders, several middle schools will be represented as well.
7. What an amazing time we had at the KICKS Fun Run yesterday! Additionally, the PTA hit its audacious goal of raising $15,000 to support Stough and its programs! THANK YOU Stough families and sponsors!
