Greetings Stough Families,
I hope that you and your students have enjoyed the past week. Here's a look at what's ahead:
1. Next week is a regular five-day week of school for students.
2. We're excited for the PTA Fun Run on Thursday! We started awarding prizes to students today who have contributed to the Fun Run. There will be more prizes handed out next week! Also, feel free to come out and cheer on your runner Thursday morning! Here's a glance at the schedule:
9:30 - 10:30, K - 1
10:30 - 11:30, 2 - 3
11:30 - 12:30, 4 - 5
3. This week in P2, we talked about being present and attentive with others. Next week we will study the trait
INTEGRITY. Someone who shows integrity is sincere, speaks the truth and is genuine. Here is the
character card to continue the conversation at home.
4. Is your student still reading every night? Remember
our goal is at least 20 minutes, either independently or with a family member! Don't forget you can log your reading online with
READvolution. (A flyer is coming home in Friday Folders today.) Any student who meets the reading goal of 800 minutes over an eight-week period will receive two tickets to a Carolina Hurricanes game! Students can use their Wake ID to log-in at school or at home. Here's the
READvolution website.
5. Are you trying to follow along with your student's math curriculum? Wake County has created a one-stop page for you to see more in-depth about what your child is learning in math throughout the year. It is linked on our website here:
Math Standards at a Glance
6. As the weather fluctuates this time of year, it's important to note that students should be prepared to be outside at their regular recess times each day. We will honor the regular thirty minutes of recess all year unless the temperatures are below 32 degrees, above 100 degrees or it's raining (wind chill, heat index and inclement weather are all considered as well). Please ensure students are dressed according to the weather each day. If you have questions, please contact me or your child's teacher.
7. Here are your weekly updates from the Stough PTA:

As a bonus, Disney Parks and Points of Light are celebrating family volunteerism by rewarding schools with Disney 1-Day Park Hopper tickets for participating in family volunteering activities. This will be a great addition to our Spring Auction prizes.
Yankee Candle Fundraiser
Sales will begin October 18 - more information to come!
8. Lastly, I got to visit the "new" Stough construction site this week. They are right on schedule. In fact, the contractor shared that they are averaging 100 workers per day, six days per week on the site! Here are a few photos (with captions below each one for clarity):
This is where the new front entrance is being built.
This vantage point is from inside where the gym and cafeteria will be.

Have a great weekend!
