Principal's Message, 1-11-19
Greetings Stough Families,
Here are your weekly updates:
1. Next week is a regular five day week of school. (Remember that Friday, 1/18 was originally a Teacher Workday, but it is now a regular school day.)
2. Thanks to all who came to the Stough Magnet Showcase today. It was a great turnout, and our Immersion students performed so well! You'll all have a chance to see these performances at Chinese New Year on February 1 (more info in PTA updates below). We'll be present at the last magnet mini-fair of the season next week - 9:30am at Brier Creek Elementary. If you know more prospective parents interested in Mandarin Immersion, please send them our way!
3. We enjoyed studying PERSEVERANCE in morning meetings this week. Next week in P2, we will study OPTIMISM. I thought these lines from Positivity Project were right on:
Optimism represents a state of hopefulness and confidence about the future (both short and long term). People with this strength are future-oriented. They have a positive vision of what the future holds and maintain confidence that they will get there. They keep a positive attitude despite setbacks – and often find ways to convert what seems like an obstacle into a stepping-stone to achieve their goals.
Optimistic people are sometimes regarded as naïve or even delusional. And, yes, there are some people who are illogically optimistic, which can be detrimental. However, optimism is not about wearing rose-colored glasses and rolling over when the going gets tough. It’s about staying focused on the good in any situation – allowing you to be aware of opportunities and accountable for your emotions.
4. Help us address the overflowing Lost and Found in our front hallway! There are many coats, hats, gloves and lunch bags that need to be claimed. We will plan to donate unclaimed items at the end of the month.
5. The Stough Spelling Bee for eligible students will be held at 9:30am on January 25 in the gym. Parents are invited to attend.
6. Here are the updates from your Stough PTA:
