Board Discusses Reopening Proposal, Vote Scheduled for Sept. 29

Students could return to in-person instruction by late October under a proposal discussed by our Board of Education during its work session this past week. In addition to the reopening plan, the board also discussed future enrollment options for students in the Virtual Academy and the benefits of providing one day each week without live online instruction for all students in remote learning. The reopening proposal, which could receive final approval as soon as Sept. 29, would use a phased approach at first. Plan details are available on the WCPSS website at the link above.

Remote Learning (Asynchronous) Day

We will be discussing more details in regards to a weekly remote learning day at Brentwood. More details will be provided next week.

Parent Opt-Out Policy for Recorded Live Instruction

On Sept. 15, the school board revised a policy to allow students enrolled in any online class to access video-recordings of online class sessions, including text chats among all participants that are part of the recordings, upon request. The recordings will only be made available to students in that class and will only be posted in Google Classroom. The primary purpose is to provide “catch up” opportunities for students who are unable to access online classes in real time due to factors beyond their control. A secondary purpose is to provide opportunities for students to review online class sessions to reinforce materials covered. Parents have until Oct. 15 to submit in writing to your school your choice to opt out of your student’s information (name, image, audio video) being shared through audio/video recordings.
