August 16, 2020
Welcome back to school! We are so excited to see all of our Brentwood students and families.
Remember, this school year we are focusing on three words:
GRACE, PATIENCE, and FLEXIBILITY
Below are a few reminders and updates as we go into our first week of school.
If for some reason you did not hear from your child’s teacher on Friday, and you still do not know WHO is your child’s teacher, please reply back to this email and I will help you as quickly as I can.
Please remember that the building is NOT open for students and families. All instruction for students will take place online. However, if you need assistance, feel free to give us a call. Our office hours are 8:30am-3pm, Monday-Friday.
What to Expect
We have created an important document that explains what to expect (including schedules) for the first two weeks of school. WHAT TO EXPECT: this document is also located on our school’s website.
Information included in this document:
- Meet the Teacher/Team information
- First two weeks schedules (Aug. 17-Aug. 28)
- Attendance policy
- Supply list
- Date for student supply distribution
- Technology distribution
- Important Resources
Meet the Teacher
Meet the Teachers sessions will be held using Google Meet on August 17 using the schedule below. These sessions will allow families the opportunity to meet all teachers at your grade level. This is important as all grade level teachers will be collaborating and more than one teacher may be supporting your child(ren). In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet with school administration at the end of the day. During this time, we will answer any frequently asked questions. Please input your questions for administration at the following link.
Please follow the link for information on how to join your child’s session. Google Meet information Link
How do I log-in to Google Classroom using Classroom codes?
Check out the following document on instructions on how to log in.
Attendance will be taken - again with flexibility as key. Students who have a two-way interaction with a teacher such as a virtual classroom meeting, email or phone call, and/or are turning in daily assignments will be counted present. More detail will be coming from your school.
It is important that Brentwood staff has updated contact information for each student. We are asking that each parent/guardian complete this form for each child. This form will replace the Student Locator Card filled out at the beginning of each year. The information collected in this form will remain confidential and only shared with Brentwood Elementary staff. Please click the following link to input student information: Student Information Form
WCPSS Technology Services will be providing iPads to all Pre-k classroom students in September. In addition, they will be receiving packets of instructional materials. More information to come.
Meals will be served at no cost to students at food distribution sites across Wake County through Monday, Aug. 31. Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1, students will pay for meals based on their meal benefits eligibility. In addition, a student’s ID number will need to be provided in order to receive meals beginning September 1. Parents/guardians may pick up meals without a student present if they can provide the ID number of the student. Please remember that Brentwood is a food distribution site. For more information and a list of all distribution sites, visit wcpss.net/food.
Childcare and Support During Remote Learning
Families looking for a program to supervise their children during remote learning can view available options at www.wakeed.org/fast. Organizations across Wake County have worked together to provide locations convenient to most families that provide affordable supervision during the day. Financial assistance is offered by individual providers.
