Family Update - 2/5/2023
MECME Families,
We hope you’ve had a great start to the month of February! Report cards and mClass reports come home on Monday. Please review with your student and celebrate growth from this first semester. This is also a good time to set some goals for second semester! Meeting Lexia and Dreambox goals are easy to support and monitor from home.
Counselor Appreciation Week – This week is counselor appreciation week! Thank you to Ms. Alton and Ms. Williams for their ongoing support of our MECME bees! Please take time to show them your gratitude this week with a card or email.
Love the Bus Month – February is “Love the Bus” month. Please take the opportunity to thank our hard-working bus drivers. As you probably know, the district continues to be short-staffed with drivers, so we appreciate the extra effort these folks give every day to help cover those vacancies and ensure students get to and from school safely.
Campus Safety and Security – With recent events at other schools, you might have questions or concerns about campus safety and security. Please know that we continue to prioritize having a safe school campus. We partner with local law enforcement and WCPSS security to review our protocols and ensure best practices. Our students and teachers practice drills regularly to ensure we are prepared in the case of crisis or emergency. If you have a concern, please contact us. WCPSS also has an anonymous tip line where you can report potential threats or concerns: (919) 856-1911.
Valentine’s Day – Valentine’s Day is next week. If you choose to send in edible treats with your students, please make sure they are individually wrapped. We will send home treats with students – they will not be consumed at school. We would not allow items like cookies or cupcakes that are not individually packaged. Thanks for supporting us with this!
Positivity Project – “Wildcard” – There is no specific character strength this week; we’re using it to catch up if we missed any of the previous P2 lessons. Now is a good time to discuss what your child has learned about strengths and empathy and review the character strengths we’ve discussed so far. Find a simple chart of all of them linked here.

DreamBox – Please remind your students to spend some time on DreamBox each day. This adaptive math software meets students where they are and helps them grow. Our data shows that students who complete five or more lessons each week make more than twice the progress of those students who do not. Help your student commit to completing one or two lessons each day.

Familias MECME,
