Principal’s Message
Greetings Washington Families,
Happy New Year:
The start of 2023 has been grand. I love the opportunities that a new year brings to all of us. While we can't forget the past, we can live in the present and work towards a better future. I encourage all of you to be mindful and work collaboratively with your teacher so your child’s future is the very best that we can make it.
It has been a great first week at Washington GT. I knew going into this interim role what a wonderful school WES is BUT seeing your kids in action (with great teachers) has been awesome. I will do my utmost to live up to the tradition of excellence that is synonymous with Washington GT.
Let’s make it a great week at 1000 Fayetteville Street!
Magically,
Doug Hooper, Interim Principal
Joyce Ratley, Assistant Principal
School Updates/Reminders
Students should not be dropped off prior to 8:50 AM unless they are enrolled in the Before Care Program. Staff is not available to monitor students and their safety if they are dropped off outside before the bell rings. Our Before Care Program begins at 7:00 AM and parents can ask for registration forms to be sent home with their child. Students that live within walking distance and are dismissed to walk home should be picked up at the front of the school no later than 4:00 PM each day.
Elective Registration
It is time to begin registration for Spring Semester Electives. You can find all the information related to registration in the attached document. We do our very best to ensure that students have choices in the electives they take while balancing academic and class size requirements. Third-Fifth grade students are required to take one elective in Language Arts/Social Studies, one elective in Math/Science, and two from the Enrichment/Other categories per year. Please make choices that reflect this requirement. Discuss with your child that they are selecting preferences for each elective period and this does not guarantee the first choice.
Use this link to go directly to the Google form to sign up for electives: https://forms.gle/i1GaYj1z3d1G3Nrj6
Elective registration forms are due Thursday, January 12th at 5:00 PM.
Wizard PTA Updates
The Theatre Production elective needs volunteers to help load/unload staging equipment on Friday, January 13, and the morning of January 20. If you can help, please email our PTA President Alyson Smith at alysonlaurelsmith@gmail.com.
When our new gym is ready, Ms. Kichefski will need a lot of parent help to get it all set up! A signup sheet will go out when we have a date. It will be a great opportunity to support our school!
