Principal’s Message

Greetings Washington Families,

Happy New Year! 2023 is here! Can you believe it? I hope everyone has had the chance to relax, recharge, and celebrate! We look forward to seeing our students this week and getting back into our school routine. Students and staff will return tomorrow, on January 3rd. All Staff will be working with students to review S.T.A.R. expectations in all locations of our school, not just the classrooms. This includes the cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, and buses! Ask your child what the S.T.A.R. acronym means! (Show self-control,Take Responsibility, Act Safely, Respect yourself and others). We know students are excited to return and want to ensure they are ready to learn! Thank you for partnering with us to prepare them for their return.

Mrs. Brunette and her husband welcomed Baby Girl Burnette last week! The family is home and everyone is doing well. We wish them the best of luck as they spend this time creating memories and caring for their new baby. In the meantime, Mr. Hooper, our Interim Principal, will join us on Tuesday, January 3rd. He is looking forward to working closely with all of you to support our Wiz Kids at Washington. His email is dhooper@wcpss.net or you can contact him at the school by calling 919-856-7960.

Important Reminders:

  1. If your child received a new backpack and/or needs another bus tag, they can stop by the front office to request one.

  2. Label clothing items. Use tape if you don’t want to write in them. Refresh spare clothing.

  3. Label Chromebook chargers and headphones so they can be returned to the right student. (Students should have a charged device daily, so the chargers can remain at home if desired)

  4. Review lunch accounts and set spending limits if needed. Go to http://www.myschoolbucks.com.

Thank you all for your support of our school community. I look forward to partnering with you in the New Year!

Let’s make it a great week at 1000 Fayetteville Street!

Magically,

Joyce Ratley

Assistant Principal
