Media Center Events
During the month of February, our Media Center is hosting a “Blind Date with a Book” event. If you’re feeling adventurous, stop by and check out their blind date with a book table! For every book you read, you can enter for a chance to win prizes.
Need help with research? Every Wednesday, during all three lunches, the Media Center runs a Research Assistance Lab. Students can stop by for help with research projects, finding sources, using databases, and creating citations! If you have any questions, reach out to Mrs. Genesky at rgenesky@wcpss.net.
March Faculty Luncheon
Our St. Patrick’s Day Faculty Luncheon is set for March 15th (Friday) 2019 and we need help to make it a success!
We have a lot of opportunities for families to donate, cook, or serve! Please have a look at the link here - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090445abae2c7-mhsptsa4 and sign up soon! It helps our Hospitality team to know what they can count on coming in from our community! This is our last big donation-driven luncheon for the year – let’s show our teachers how much we love to spoil them!
If you have any questions, please reach out to Kim Day or Jodi Bulmer and we’ll help you get answers!
ACT Information
All first-time juniors will take the ACT on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. This test will take place during first and second blocks in the 200 building. Please bring pencils, a calculator, and a photo ID. Testing locations will be posted after February 8.
Junior Parent Night
Junior Parent Night is February 21st starting at 6pm. Come out to hear college admissions presentations, military presentations, and financial aid presentations. Learn all about post-secondary planning. Students are encouraged to attend as well!
Final Yearbook Sales
This is the last parent reminder before yearbook sales close for guaranteed yearbooks. If you anticipate wanting a yearbook for your child, purchase at jostens.com BEFORE midnight on Feb. 22. After that, the price goes up and you will only be reserving extras that may be ordered. To repeat, order before Feb. 22 to guarantee that your child has a yearbook in May! Direct questions to mputnam@wcpss.net.
Annual Academic Celebration
We are looking forward to our annual Academic Celebration April 30 - May 3. This celebration honors students that have an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher for the first 3 quarters of the 2018-19 school year. The celebration begins in the auditorium with a brief assembly and recognition of students by school administrators. A breakfast buffet will follow in the cafeteria with food donations from local businesses such as Starbucks, Waffle House, IHOP, and Chick fil A. We will celebrate each grade separately through the week, beginning with the Senior class.
This is a Millbrook celebration organized by the PTSA and is different than Wake County A/AB Honor Roll recognition.
IB MYP & DP Updates and News
Attention sophomore families. The February 28th deadline for joining Millbrook's Diploma Programme is rapidly approaching and we have only two information sessions remaining. Attendance at one of these meetings by the student and parent is required to join the Diploma Programme. If you are interested in attending one of these meetings, please visit bit.ly/DPSmallGroupMeetings (link is also on MHS website). Learn more about the programme that a recent graduate described as "a community, an experience, and nothing short of life-changing!"
Our 10th graders have been hard at work on their MYP Personal Projects since October. We are excited for them to complete their essays, which are due March 4 (B Day) and March 5 (A Day), and begin preparing for their presentations. Our students are completing a diverse array of projects this year. Examples include: researching personal genealogy, following a vegan diet and lifestyle for 30 days, working on the engine and body of an older car, collecting, organizing, and delivering school supplies for Hurricane Florence victims, earning a pilot’s license, buying and tracking stocks, creating a new energy bar, building a high-tech bed frame complete with lights and speakers, designing and painting a mural at a children’s hospital, writing a complete novel, and the list goes on. We’re incredibly proud of our 10th graders for tackling this challenging, but personally rewarding project.
