New information . . .
We are sending out the newsletter early this week to share some time sensitive reminders. There will be no newsletter sent out this weekend.
A Super "Cool" Concert and Book Fair
Kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade will be participating in a concert tomorrow, Thursday, December 5th, at 6:00 PM in the gym. The book fair in the media center will be open prior to the concert from 5:00-5:45. Proceeds from the book fair benefit Salem students. This is an excellent opportunity to find some gifts for the holidays. Details about the book fair can be found here.
Track Change Requests
Track change request information and forms are now available on the Salem Elementary website under Salamander News. The deadline to turn in track change request forms is February 3, 2020.
Let's Talk About Carpool . . . (reposted for returning Track 2 families)
While we had a great day of learning on Saturday, November 16th, carpool created a lot of frustration for both families and staff members. Because many family members had the day off and chose to drive their children to school, the line was way longer and slower than normal. Because many family members dropping off were new to carpool, they did not know the procedures. Tempers flared when some parents tried to "cut the line" by turning left into the carpool lane instead of going to the end of the road and turning around in the circle.
Please keep in mind that some of the drivers who were trying to turn left just didn't know otherwise. We ask that drivers go to the end and turn around in the circle to avoid a backup that blocks traffic on Old Jenks Road - like we did badly on Saturday morning. Please do not block traffic by attempting three-point turns near the gravel staff parking lot. It is also only fair that people pick up in the order in which they arrived. If we have a staff member at the corner trying to help, please follow their directions and treat them with kindness and respect. I guarantee that they get no enjoyment out of directing traffic and are trying to help the greater good. Below is a map showing how traffic should flow anytime that you are entering the carpool lane in the morning or afternoon. I apologize for not sharing this earlier this week in anticipation of so many new carpool drivers.
