New/Updated Announcements

 

Good evening Bengal Family.  We had a great first week at our brand-new school last week.  Students were given a lot of information last week, from how fire drills will operate to lunch procedures to expectations in the classroom.  Please encourage your child to review the materials given to them by their teachers.  Here are a few updates and reminders as we head into another great week at FVMS.  

 

No school on Monday, September 2nd

The school building will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day.  We look forward to seeing all of our students on Tuesday, September 3rd. 

 

Carpool Procedures

We felt that carpool in the morning and afternoon went extremely well last week.  Please do not pull into the 2nd lane of carpool in the afternoon until 2:40 PM.  This will allow any parents trying to sign their child out prior to 2:40 pm the opportunity to get to the school. Please do not drop your kids off in the surrounding neighborhoods.   You may find our carpool procedures at this LINK.

 

Athletic Information

Tryouts for fall sports will begin this week.  If your child was unable to attend the interest meetings last week, please have them reach out to the coach of the respective sport that they would like to play to get information about trying out.  They will need to make sure all of their information is updated in DragonFly prior to trying out.

Health/PE Shirts

Coach Umphrey has PE shirts for any student that would like to purchase one.  The cost is $5 and can be given to Coach Umphrey.  The shirts are not a requirement for dressing out in PE.

 

Volunteer Registration

Volunteers no longer need to register to be a volunteer at a WCPSS school.  You may now register at this LINK to become a volunteer at our school.  If you plan to serve as a volunteer during the school year, please complete the registration form. 

 

 

 

PTA Announcements

 

Are you a Member Yet?

We are excited for another great year of serving our FVMS students and community! We can't do what we do without YOU, our school parents and families. If you have not joined the FVMS Parent Teacher Association for the 2024-25 school year yet, please take a moment to do so online. If you prefer paper, you can print off this form (English) or this form (Spanish) and send it, along with your annual dues (cash only, please), in a sealed envelope to school with your student and they can turn it in to their homeroom teacher. 

 

Joining is not the same as volunteering, so don't panic! By just joining, the PTA is able to utilize your annual dues to fund all of the amazing things they do for students and staff. If you want to take the next step and get involved with PTA, we'd love to have you, and you can fill out our short survey to get started. We will be in touch!

Donations Needed

PTA is providing Chick-fil-a and Amazon gift cards to help celebrate staff birthdays and recognize Staff of the Month. We need financial donations from Bengal families to help purchase these items. If you are able to contribute towards this staff recognition program, please visit our online PTA Spirit Shop. Thank you so much for your generosity! 

PS - While you are in the spirit shop, consider purchasing a PTA membership for the current school year!

Mark your Calendar

PTA will have its first General Membership Meeting on Monday, September 9th at 6:30pm in the school library (media center). This meeting is VERY important, as we will be presenting the proposed annual budget for the 2024-2025 school year. All PTA members are encouraged to attend as we will need to meet quorum to vote. This is also a great time to meet other parents and staff, as well as learn about what PTA does at the middle school level. We strongly encourage in-person attendance, but a virtual option will be made available and the link included in the Principal's Message the Sunday prior to the meeting.

New Counselor

This year, we have a new counselor joining the Bengal Family, Ms. Jessica Carvalho.  She will be working with our 7th grade students.  Ms. Fonda Phillips will be working with our 6th grade students and Mr. Morman will be working with our 8th grade students.  Their emails are listed below if you need to get in contact with them.

Walker Pass

If your child will be a walker after school, please complete this

Walker Pass Google Form. This year, we will not be requiring students to live within a mile of the school in order to receive a walker pass.  However, they must have a walker's pass in order to leave the school by way of walking or riding their bike.  In addition, the walker pass should not be used to avoid carpool and meet your son/daughter on a nearby street.  Students should be walking to their house or their parent's place of business. 

 

No food in the Classrooms

In order to keep our school looking and smelling clean and new we will not be allowing food and drinks, other than water, in our classrooms.  Students will need to eat their breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria during designated times.  This will be discussed with students during the first week of school.  Exceptions will be made for students with health care plans that require them to eat snacks during the school day.   

 

Cell Phones

We will have the cell phone policy as last school year.  Students will be expected to place their cell phone in a designated area in the classroom.  This is to ensure our learning environments are free from distractions and students can be fully engaged in the lessons being taught by their teachers. 

 

7th Grade Immunizations  

All 7th grade students must provide documentation that they have received the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine.  We must receive this documentation by September 27th.  Failure to do so will result in your child being excluded from school.  You may bring your child’s updated shot records to the school between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, email them to Ms. Donna Lanham at dlanham@wcpss.net or fax them to 919-670-4397.   

 

Only Medical and Religious exemptions are accepted in NC. For more information about exclusions, please visit http://www.immunize.nc.gov/schools/ncexemptions.htm 

 

Bus Rider Registration

If you would like to register your child for bus transportation next school year, you may do so at this LINK.  If you have any questions about transportation, you may email Mr. DeVane at edevane@wcpss.net.
