Mr. Clark's Bengal Message for the week of 01/17/2021

Good Evening Bengal Family, this is Mr. Clark, Principal at Fuquay-Varina Middle School, with your weekly Bengal Message.

New Announcements

Remote Learning

As you all know, the board of education voted on Thursday, January 14 to keep students in remote learning until at least mid-February.  At this time, we do not have a definitive date on when Plan B students will return to in-person instruction.  Once that information is made available to us, we will share it with parents/students.  I will re-share our Plan B guidelines when we get closer to the date of students returning to school.

No School on Monday & Tuesday

As a reminder, there is no school for students on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

2nd Semester Schedules

We have been told that students will continue to see their 1st semester classes in powerschool until Wednesday, January 20.  This means if a student’s teacher has changed, they will see two classes for that subject on Monday and Tuesday.  On Wednesday, they should only see the classes they are enrolled in for 2nd semester.  Our teachers will spend time in 1st period on Wednesday ensuring students know what classes that are supposed to attend and making sure their Google classrooms are set up to reflect their 2nd semester classes.

2nd Semester Elective Schedule

We have made an adjustment to when students will attend their elective classes in order to eliminate any discrepancies between how many times they attend each class.  Our elective schedule will now follow a rotating schedule instead of a set schedule. So students will simply attend the opposite elective class the next day starting with Elective 1 on Wednesday, January 20.  I will post the upcoming weeks elective schedule in my weekly message to parents.

In addition, the PE department has created their schedule for the 2nd Semester which can be found HERE.  The schedule outlines when students will attend Health and PE.  If you have any questions about the schedule, you may email your child’s PE teacher.

Material Distribution

If you were unable to pick up your son/daughter’s 3rd quarter material this past week, you may pick it up from the front office any day this week between 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, with the exception of Monday.

Middle School Athletic Activities

At this time, middle school athletic activities have been suspended.  The district will communicate to us if we will host athletic activities.  We do ask that if you are still interested in participating in athletic activities to please complete the Google Form.  In addition, you will need to complete the Middle School Athletic Participation Form found at this LINK.

One correction to make is we will accept physical forms dated on or after March 1, 2019 not 2020 as previously noted.   So if your child received a physical on or after March 1, 2019 and it was turned into Coach Umphrey, we do not need another physical form from you.

Lastly, athletic activities are open to all 7th and 8th grade students. After assessing interest and determining available space, we will decide if interested 6th grade students are able to participate in that sport.

If you have any questions about athletics, you may email Coach Umphrey at

The last day to purchase an 8th grade ad in the yearbook is on February 11.  If you would like to purchase an 8th grade ad or if you have any questions, you may email Ms. Rion at
