Sunday Scoop

August 16, 2020

Greetings Hodge Families! It’s Principal Dorsey here with your Sunday Scoop. My message is lengthy, but please read to the end.

Tomorrow is the big day! The first day of school for our students. We are ready to welcome our students back remotely. Please have your child log into Google Classroom to begin the school day at 8:45. This time may be a change from what was communicated during Meet the Grade Level, but we will begin school at 8:45. Attendance will be taken.

We understand some students who expressed a need for a district device and/or Wi-Fi may not have their device yet. Your child will NOT be marked absent. Please communicate with your child’s teacher.

The next two weeks are for orientation. The schedule will be modified. We will engage your child in up to one hour of live activities per day and up to one hour of activities offline. During orientation, teachers will establish routines and procedures, support login and access to Google Classroom and build relationships. Over the next two weeks we will work our way up to 2.5 hours of live instruction per day.

We will hold a Materials Pick up on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 18th and 19th. We will distribute curriculum materials and basic school supplies including folders, a notebook, pencils, crayons, a pencil pouch, scissors and glue. Please drive through the bus loop on Tuesday between 10:00-1:00 or Wednesday between 12:00-3:00. Please remain in your car and a staff member will give you supplies for your child. We ask that you please wear a mask. If you are not able to pick up your child’s materials on Tuesday or Wednesday, please call the office at (919) 266-8599 to arrange a time for pick up.

If you have business to conduct at the school, we will do our best to meet you outside, even at your car if you call ahead. If you enter the building you must wear a mask and undergo a health screening and have your temperature checked. The health screening includes a series of questions regarding symptoms you’ve experienced and your contact with anyone diagnosed with Covid-19.

Our school will remain a food site. Free breakfast and lunch is available between the hours of 10:45 am-12:45 pm every day. Please note, starting on September 1st, there will be a cost for lunch unless you qualify for free or reduced lunch. You can apply for free or reduced lunch on our school website. Click on the “Parent” tab then drop down to “School Meals” and click on “Free and Reduced” on the left side of the screen.

We look forward to seeing our students tomorrow on Google Classroom. Have a good night!
