Weekly Update 9-5-2022
COUGAR FAMILIES
We had a phenomenal first week of school. Remember that Monday is a holiday. Please make sure that you have access to your student’s Canvas site. There is a parent portal and codes have been sent to you to join your student’s classes. If you have not received the code, please contact your student’s teachers via email. Don’t forget that students have homework daily. Check their Canvas or Agenda. If all is completed please have them read 10 pages in their novel for ELA and/or complete a Dreambox lesson for Math.
DRESS CODE & ELECTRONICS: Parents please continue to partner with us as we enforce the dress code which aligns to all district guidelines. Students cannot wear any headgear. This includes but is not limited to headbands, hoods, hats etc. In addition, students should not utilize nor have their cellular phone devices out during the school day. This also includes not putting earbuds/headphones in their ears during class or transitions. We want to continue to focus on creating a safe and caring environment where students can thrive.
COUGAR CAMP/MEET THE TEACHER: For those of you who did not attend the auditorium session, please make sure to review the presentation linked here. COUGAR CAMP/MEET THE TEACHER PRESENTATION. You can also view important information from teachers here. VIRTUAL ONE PAGERS. Don’t forget to get supplies and bring them daily along with a charged Chromebook. SUPPLY LIST
SCHEDULES: Please note that during the first 10 days of school we will balance classes. As a result, some student’s schedules may be adjusted. In addition, students are assigned an Acceleration class in either or both ELA and Math based upon various data points. This is necessary to meet student needs during the academic year. Students have the opportunity to work out of the class at different points throughout the year. If you feel this is an error please contact your grade level administrator.
FORMS NEEDED: This is a reminder to turn in all forms to 1st period/Homeroom if you did not attend Cougar Camp. We need all forms completed and turned in to include: (1)Student Information Sheet, (2)Lunch Application, (3)Power School & (4) Military Connected. Students will not receive instructional materials until forms are returned.
BUS RIDERS: Please be patient as bus drivers adjust to their new routes. Arrival and dismissal times are estimations. It is recommended that you are at your stop at least 15 minutes prior to the time listed for pick up. If you need assistance with bus transportation, please contact Terrance Hinnant at thinnant2@wcpss.net.
CARPOOL RIDERS: You may begin dropping off students at 7:45am. Pick up is at 3:00pm. Carpool traffic should only be coming from one direction. Follow Shepard School Road to E. Stronach Avenue and then left on N. Privette Drive. There is no entrance in our front parking lot for carpool. All cars must exit our carpool line by turning right onto Shepard School Road. Cars that enter the line from the wrong direction will be asked to join the back of the carpool line. It is important that your carpool tag is displayed in your vehicle's front window in the afternoon for pick up. Please ensure your carpool tag is clearly displayed to our staff for the duration your vehicle is on our campus. If it is not displayed, you will be asked to pull into the parking lot out of carpool to physically exit your vehicle and follow the checkout procedures. This is for security purposes and to ensure our dismissal goes smoothly and as quick as possible. Please note that the first couple of days carpool will be slow. Do not block driveways or buses. If you need assistance with a carpool tag or have questions, please contact Ashlie King at aking5@wcpss.net.
WALKERS: Any student walking home from school must have a verified note from their parent/guardian. Please send a note with your child listing your name, your phone number, the date your child should walk home (ex. all year or 8/23), and sign the note. Your child should bring the note to the front office to be verified prior to walking home. Students will come to the front lobby daily at 3:00pm to exit the building and walk home.
CAFETERIA: Breakfast and lunch are not free to all students this year. Please ensure that your student brings money with them to purchase breakfast and/or lunch if they do not receive free or reduced lunch meals. Don’t forget that you can also add funds to student accounts through myschoolbucks.com.
